there were other bigs in the last half of Wilt's career too

    Walt Bellamy
    Zelmo Beaty
    Leroy Ellis
    Darrell Imhoff
    Wes Unseld
    Elvin Hayes
    Dave Cowens

Wilt was mostly a man among boys for his first 5 seasons, but after that, lots of big men started showing up

I do wonder if any of those players could even make an NBA roster today. Personally I don’t think so?

Hayes, Cowens, and Unseld would most definitely make teams, for different reasons. Beaty was very mobile

    Seriously Doubt it but maybe?
Just a different breed that plays today. Wes Unseld would be my maybe but even he wasn’t really fast enough for today’s game.

did you see Cowens play? He'd fit right into this version of the NBA. I'm not talking about stuffing him in a time machine and bringing him forward forty years. I'm talking about these players developing in the era of the 3 point shot and dribble drive/passing offenses. Hayes was pretty similar. He was KAT with defense

I could be wrong but that seems a bit over the top?
So now you are saying those players growing up today and with the scientific research and results players have at their disposal today that they would be able to play in todays game. Well yeah. Isn’t that what the whole conversation has been about?

Just heard Tas Melas of the Starters and No Dunks has been in a serious accident hit by a car while walking outside the Braves stadium..just got out of ICU after a week and has a fractured skull, brain bleed and is all kinds of fucked up. Wish him a speedy recovery and was sorry to hear of his accident. Always liked Tas.

These guys are rightly concerned with Toronto mortgaging the future for Dame. It seems to be the "3 picks" that they are uneasy with. I would too if I were them. Teams who offer lots of picks should have an excess of picks in order to do so....not just their own.
That being said, I think Toronto can offer a package without including more than one pick.

yeah, Toronto can only offer one pick

but Portland should not accept considering that OG could be a one year rental. OG doesn't have the value of a player with 3 years left on his deal. He's an expiring contract and that significantly ratchets down his value. Toronto would be adding a top-10 player, and the "centerpiece" they are offering is a lower-impact player on an expiring contract. They shouldn't skate by losing only 1 draft pick

I think OG should be rerouted to a third team that feels more confident that they would be able to keep him, most likely because they are expecting to be more competitive than us or we just find out some preferred destinations for OG and work off of that list.

Also it's my understanding that Toronto could offer both their FRPs in 2028 and 2030, since if they haven't conveyed the FRP they owe the Spurs by 2026 that FRP becomes second rounders in 2026 and 2027.

I think the minimum they should give, draft-wise, is the 2028 unprotected, the 2030 maybe-protected, Gradey Dick, and some 2nds

other than that, OG (expiring) + Boucher + Young is not that good of a package and only a little better than Miami's

I don't even think we should want Boucher, he should be replaced by Porter and Precious who is a RFA. I think Boucher is better right now than Precious and that should make Toronto ready to give up more value. Maybe we even get Koloko.

Honestly we still wouldn't be winning the trade if it was Dick, their FRPs in 2028 and 2030, OG, Precious, Koloko, Young, Porter, swaps and SRPs that Toronto sent out while acquiring Dame. I know we're almost certainly going to come out on the losing side of this deal anyway but we should be trying to get as close to equal value coming back as possible.

What if we do re-sign OG next summer? I am sure that is what Toronto would argue. He is going to command 30 million next year, maybe more with the way things are going. Can top teams create that amount of cap space just for him? Who would we be competing with? Maybe the deal includes extra picks if he does not re-sign. (Is that an option?)

Personally, I would rather have OG and this last year's lottery pick (Gradey Dick) plus filler than an extra future non-lottery pick.
