They have too many players, too many picks, they almost made the playoffs last year and should be much better this year with Chet and the rest of their roster maturing. They are a piece away, IMHO, from a deep playoffs run. Time to try and get that with a consolidation trade and remove some of the extra picks.
Something like this is might be good. 2 firsts, and Gradey is was a lotto pick this year. Boucher is an under-rated player who could start at forward for us. Then the Dame trade essentially becomes for 4 first round picks and Boucher.
I think that if the trade goes official as-is, then Jrue can't be delt in an aggregated trade for 2 months per the CBA. I'm guessing they are working the phones trying to get him moved in the main transaction to avoid this?
Why Jrue Holiday -- not Dame -- will impact the NBA title race When news of Damian Lillard's trade to the Milwaukee Bucks hit Adrian Wojnarowski's social media on Wednesday afternoon, there was a mad dash across NBA front offices to get into meetings and Zoom calls. Not to discuss Lillard's fit with Giannis Antetokounmpo, delicious of a topic as that might be, but because the three-team trade with the Portland Trail Blazers and Phoenix Suns opened a massive opportunity: 33-year-old All-Star guard Jrue Holiday might be on the open market. Milwaukee's pending superstar duo no doubt is the foundation of a potential championship team, but Holiday could end up playing an even bigger role as to who might win the title this season. This is one of the rarest transactions you see in the NBA: a league-altering trade that begets another possible league-altering trade. The Trail Blazers just spent three months trying to squeeze together a deal for Lillard. It will be much easier to trade Holiday if, as is expected, they go forward with a youth movement and focus on assembling draft capital and move him onward. That is not because Holiday is a "better" player than Lillard, who is one of the greatest offensive players of this generation. But because Holiday's skill set -- he's a voracious defender coming off one of the best offensive seasons of his 14-year career -- is so desired by contenders in the league. That he's got championship experience and can play a variety of different roles only makes him more valuable on a star-laden team. All of the teams that showed interest in Lillard could call the Blazers back to re-engage on Holiday. Plus many more. (pay wall)
Would you say yes to THJ, Green, filler, and two unprotected 1sts in ‘26 and ‘28? Obviously, the play here would be the two unprotected 1sts, which could be very valuable in a few years.
I think he makes a ton of sense in San Antonio. Pop loves Jrue from Team USA. Having a solid PG like him can immeasurably help Wemby early in his career. They have ton of tradeable contracts in addition to the following 1st round picks: - all of their own picks - 2024 CHA (prot 1-14 ) - 2024 TOR (prot 1-6) -2025 ATL (unprotected) - 2025 CHI (prot 1-10)
Trade Jrue for a pick and an all-star player. Rinse repeat Eventually we'll end up with all 30 picks in the draft!
