So you're more thinking he did wrong leading up to the trade, but not the actual trade? Those are two different arguments, and I wont necessarily disagree with you on the leadup. I can see that side.

Though I would say that both Dame and Joe didnt handle the initial lead up after his trade request well at all. I thought Joe did well countering Dame (and really not dame, but that fuck Goodwin) saying only one team. But again, two different arguments, and I can see why one would lean more to one side than the other.

    Ummmm. what?

Like, how did you type these words genuinely? This is the most myopic, falsified view of the team.

Im really struggling with people thinking this was a bad deal.

Then I check out what they were expecting and it all makes sense. They just wanted unrealistic, never going to happen trades with players that werent even available. Then yell at the person who actually got fair value for Dame. Like wut?

Screw Miami and shipping Lowry's bloated 1 year deal to Portland. Blazers already cashed out Bledsoe just to wipeout future tax problems. The Dame to Miami trade should have pushed the Heat into 2nd apron. The Heat managers were negotiating with Blazer managers who are sick of being a dumping ground for bad contracts.

No... no deal. Piss off Pat

I'm calling BS because of context

    * start with the reality that Miami didn't have 3 first's to trade. Simply didn't have them. And we have never heard that either they were working deal with OKC or had actually found a taker for Herro that would send a first

    * we never heard a single report, suggestion, or rumor that Miami was offering unprotected firsts, and I don't believe they were

    * Lowry + Jovic is 4M short of working. And all I've heard is that Miami wouldn't include Martin or Jaquez. Another thing I've heard, many times, is that Miami was insisting that the Blazers take Robinson. And moving the negative value of Robinson should be worth a 1st by itself

At the end of the day we can compare what could have been the best case scenario trade from Miami to what we got for Dame and whatever we end up getting for Jrue, but we will never know how far Miami would have actually gone. We only know what they actually offered.

There is a bucket full of moving parts to find the answer to the op's question.

    1) Dames goes to a contender, he is happy. Dame wins.

    2) Bucks leap to favorite to win rings. Bucks win.

    3) Sun's save money. Sun's win.

    4) Blazers upgrade C position and appear to have created a more balanced roster. Blazers win.

    5) Blazers add assets with future draft picks, and a very valuable tradeable all star player. Blazers win again.

    6) Blazers are now a more entertaining team to watch. Blazer fans win.

That's a win-win-win-win-win-win trade. But wait, there is more.

Overlooked is Cronin's new reputation around the NBA. His rookie days of getting taken advantage of are over. He will not waste time on low ball offers. He has shown the NBA that he is a fair play negotiator, and wants to make the best deal that is a win for everyone envolved.

How do I now feel about Cronin. He has done good work, and earned my respect.

I want to clarify this by stating the bad takes are by those who think this is a bad trade…

Joe Cronin back on July 10th:

Question: If there is to be a Dame trade what is your goal to come out of it?

Joe: In any deal, the goal is to come out with the best outcome. So for us that can be many different things. It could be more of a win now player and that would be intriguing to us. It could be a young player and picks and that would be intriguing. It could be just picks and we would look at that as well. For us it is how can we maximize this return and I don't think we have any set parameters, it's we would evaluate each deal case by case and choose the best one."

Question: Is there a better win-now player than Damian Lillard?

    Joe: There is not.

This is all very funny to me because if you look at the current trade without dealing Jrue

Win now player = Jrue Holiday/Ayton

Young player and picks = Camara and picks from Milwaukee.

He wants to maximize the return and that's what he's working on right now with Jrue. They asked if there's a better win now player than Dame on the market and Joe said no.... but I bet you if you asked him today if there's a better win now player on the market than Jrue, he'd give the same answer

    Joe won this trade.

it's hard explaining pick swaps to people who don't care about such things. milwaukee will be in the middle of a rebuild and we'll be yoinking their picks as a playoff team.

Cronin has done the logical thing since his first move, even if people had some silly ideas about norm and roco's value.

That dude knows what he is doing and is executing it properly when you look at what he has to work with.

Long vs short term thinking, talent acquisition and roster balance.

It took him less than 2 years, but the blazers finally have a future to look at.
