I disagree. You can not like assets in one trade but think they’re fine for another. If you want my Damian Lillard rookie card but you offer some mediocre cards in trade, I’m not going to take the deal. But if I now have a Jrue Holiday rookie card and you offer the same cards, I might take it. If we were to get essentially the same stuff for Holiday while also getting the more valuable Milwaukee picks and Allen for the deal to Phoenix, that’s not like just taking the Heat deal.
Bridges have been burned for even longer than that. Blazers let Riley pull a fast one on us with Whiteside and we said “…never again”.
Williams shoots over 41% from 3, Aminu shot 33% for his career. That alone is a huge difference in the 2. I'd love Aminu with a knock down 3 point shot
Yeah but for many teams, Jrue is equally as valuable of an asset. We are just more emotionally attached to Dame. Same age. One is a much better defender, the other a much better shooter.
He might like them on top of what he got from the Bucks and PHX, the issue was not that the assets did not have some value, it was that they did not have enough value for a top-75 all time player.
I agree with what you said about both guys being mostly potential at this point. If there were a trade that came back with 3 1sts and filler, I take it over either guys. But that doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be reason for enthusiasm. I think PWill easily looks better on defense when he is around better defensive players. Would you be able to run the numbers on all the games in which he played with Ball?
Holiday is also much better at his worse weakness (shooting) than Dame is at his worse weakness (defense).
Strengths: length and strength to defend straight line drivers Shot blocking, shot blocking timing. Very aggressive rotating to the ball, very effective against guys with poor court vision/passing skills As a backline defender, he’s not really great yet, but there are flashes of him getting there early (as seen in the video) As a “swarming” defender he is already one of the best in the league. Weaknesses: Can be unaware of situation at times. Not keeping his spot in the defense can leave a shooter open. But the commentator would rather have that seeing how effective he is rotating to the ball handler. Hip mobility not good. He will likely never be a good perimeter defender (other than against a stationary player).
id rather get one guy we really like than another flier we’re meh on. We have a fair amount of developing players on the roster rn. Though I suppose we’ll likely be moving grant or Tisse along at the deadline, opening up more minutes.
Holiday has been a good 3-point shooter lately. So that is definitely not a weakness. Jrue's True Shooting Percentage is better than Anfernee Simons. TS% for Jrue
Neither project to be starters with our current foundation. Would rather go find a guy who can project to be a starter with what we have than more meh projects that will stunt the development of our other 3s and 4s.
