It hit me that these three kids will likely be starting as the first, second, and third options on the team this season, all top ten picks, two in the top three. It feels like we backed into a future Big Three in basically a single summer. I know Grant is probably our main scoring option right now, but how excited are you for these three in particular?
Im excited to see them push the ball and defend better. If Ayton can stay healthy and motivated and I think he will, should be fun.
I don't think anyone is. The only thing they're sleeping on is his fit with a successful team. Monta Ellis was an all-star and the Warriors had the foresight to move him for a more traditional backcourt. To the OG question, I'm super excited about Scoot, Shae and Ayton as a three-headed monster. Just have to continue to add defensive personnel around the foundation.
Fair enough, but I don't see anyone on this roster more qualified than Scoot and Shaedon at PG and SG. I think you're trying to say we'll start Simons and Thybulle instead? Which isn't impossible, but Thybulle didn't exactly outperform Shaedon, and Antony doesn't have the ceiling Scoot does. Maybe in October we see Simons start, but it's pretty obvious Scoot is our future unless Simons suddenly destroys the league.
If those three hit their ceiling, and we're able to surround them with impactful pieces, we're in the hunt. That's all you can ask.
I’m hesitant to say this really is our big 3. The question is still remains whether Shae can effectively play at the 3 and if Ant and Scoot can coexist. Right now, I’m happy to have two guys that are for sure part of our future, many teams can’t say that going into a rebuild year. We also have two highly productive players in Grant and Ant, one of whom can still be a star—this will literally be his first full year as the #1 option. I LOVE the idea of not making Scoot a primary scorer off the bat. There’s a lot of offensive talent on this team. A lot of highly drafted PGs go to a team depleted of any offensive talent and have to shoulder the load from day 1, Scoot won’t. Billups knows the path to becoming a HOF PG. We also don’t know what DA will be. It’d be awesome to be confident that he will be, but what if Sarr comes here and wows us with his Mobley-esque abilities. There might be more than a few that will convince themselves Sarr is really the third one in the big 3. So who knows. Let’s see Ant as the #1 option, let’s see DA get more touches and see if that leads to any engagement on the defensive end of the floor.
Totally agree. I believe Ant will be far and away our best player next season, with Scoot and Sharpe a distant 2nd/3rd. I guess Ayton could become 2nd or arguably 1st ala Nurks Bosnian Beast first few months here. I just think of him as more of a JR Rider type flyer than a key long term foundational core piece. Super excited to see how this actually plays out on the court. There's some surprises and disappointments every year. So much better we are going with this new direction than bringing the band back with small changes for year #12
When he was the #1 option, he was pretty much a more efficient Trae Young, with half the playmaking ability. I’m really excited to see Ant as the #1 option. I’m going to be slightly optimistic and say 26ppg, similar or slightly better FG% with a trend upward to his averages shooting the 3. Less taking taking several dribbles to end up jacking up a 3. More dribbling into a 3 off a DA pick, more catch and shoots. More driving to the basket and hopefully even just a 2 FTA increase. He was going through guys his size like Trae when he gets to the basket.
I think Ant will be a very clear #1. Ayton, 2. Grant, 3. Scoot, 4. Don't see Shaedon being our 5th best player either but would be pleasantly surprised.
He's going to be our leading scorer this year. Grant might average 20 again, but he won't score what Ant will.
I think Ant is going to be marketed as the franchise guy and they'll probably call Ant, Grant and Ayton the big 3 to start out. I'd trade Ant and keep Brogdon but that's why I'm such a famous in demand GM
I think Scoot will end up being the #3 option over Grant. Grant averaged like 14 FGA last year and averaged an efficient 20. He’ll probably be getting a few shots off at the end of the clock and a lot of catch and shoot 3s. He won’t be getting multiple post-ups or anything like that. Scoot probably will end up with more FGA than Grant imo.
Sharpe is #1 on my list of who to give the ball to for a winning shot. I trust him more than Simons because of his length and hops that allow him to put defenders on their heels and shoot right over them, even right over Rudy Gobert. Sharpe's finishing ability is Brandoy-Roy-esque.
Sharpe has these moments that are jaw dropping, but then he has 4 poor mistakes in the following minutes. Long term I might agree with you, but for next season on an every play basis I see Ant as way more polished and effective.
