I can't look at Brogdon and not think of this guy:

I meant to make my Utah comparison in this thread. That is, we're like Utah was last season: dismantling our team and expected to have the worst record in the league, but surprisingly good... until the FO trades the veteran just before the trade deadline to ensure tankage in the second half. For them the veteran was Mike Conley, for us it will be Brogdon and/or Jerami.

If our starting lineup is Scoot/Simons/Grant/Willliams/Ayton and we have Brogdon/Sharpe/Thybulle/Walker(or Murray) coming off the bench, where are we weak? Maybe in terms of depth at PF/C but that's it.

If we don’t trade brogdon then he will start. Sharpe is young and wouldn’t wise a scene. That would allow Brogdon to raise is value before the trade deadline. If Brogdon is on the Blazers after the trade deadline than either 1) He’s injured, or 2) He’s amazing.

Start Brogdon at PG over Scoot?

He's not starting over Ant at SG.

Sorry, Brogdon is not being traded to Miami.

I will say, there seems to be a lot of versatility on this roster. Might be time to do the annual "best situational lineups" thread. Although perhaps that's better after pre-season.

If we don't make any more trades, here's my guess as to the starting lineup

    PG - Brogdon
    SG - Simons
    SF - Thybulle
    PF - Grant
    C - Ayton

    Completely agree.
Allows Scoot/Sharpe to continue to develop with out as much pressure & also develop more chemistry.

I think it would be Ant and Brogdon. It would only be until a trade.

I would be surprised if that were the case. Limiting Brogdon's minutes to keep him healthy would make the most sense to me.

    PG - Scoot/Brogdon
    SG - Ant/Sharpe
    SG - Thybulle/Sharpe
    PF - Grant/Williams
    C - Ayton/Williams

They'll obviously play more than 8, but if they were trying real hard to win, I think that would be the guys getting the majority of minutes.

Swap out Thybulle for Williams if we play big teams.

Grant, Simons and Ayton are locks. If Brogdon shows up, he should be a lock too. The fifth player is up in the air. Could even be someone like Jabari (because of Grant's anemic rebounding) or Murray (spread the floor)

i think this is insane. Sorry. Not trying to be disrespectful; genuinely baffled at this idea.

There also has been no historical precedence for such a thing.

Some recent PGs who were drafted top 5, in their rookie years:
    - Ivey: started 73 of 74 games
    - Cade: started 64 of 64 games
    - Suggs: started 45 of 48 games
    - LaMelo: started 31 of 51 games
    - Morant: started 67 of 67 games
    - Garland: started 59 of 59 games
    - Luka: started 72 of 72 games
    - Trae: started 81 of 81 games

I can keep going, but I think I made my point. Starting a stopgap, oft injured journeyman vet to ease the pressure off Scoot in a season where we WANT him to get all his lumps is a ridiculous notion.

I hate that lineup. I'd rather see:
    Scoot
    Sharpe
    Grant
    Williams
    Ayton.
rotate in Simons, Brogdon, Walker, Thuybulle

Brogdan and Rim Shae would make for a nice off the bench guard tandem.

All three of these guys have decent size for an SF: Knox, Camara, and Murray. Can one of them step up this year?

Deron Williams: started 47 out of 80
Tyrese Haliburton: started 20 out of 58
    D'Aaron Fox: started 60 out of 73
Shit CHAUNCEY BILLUPS didn't start 10 games his rookie year, and he's the guy who's going to make the call.
Magic Johnson didn't start AT ALL at PG because of Norm Nixon.

It's not a question of HOW HIGH you were picked, it's a question of "is there a starter-level vet on the roster at your position?" Is that true of any of your examples?

Now does that mean Scoot won't start? IMO it depends on whether or not Brogdon shows up. The man is the reigning sixth man of the year in the entire fucking NBA. If he's healthy he starts (yeah, I know "sixth man" - but that was on a MUCH better team) - anything less would be an unfathomable diss. Scoot already has to wear a Barbie backpack and make donut runs for the vets, he can take not starting for a few games.

Not sure you're really countering my point if that's your intent. Deron (who also started the large majority of his games)/Chauncey were not from this era, and Magic started ever game his rookie year while playing 36+ mpg.

Again, irrelevant. Scoot is billed as a transcendent PG prospect who plays well beyond his experience because of his time with the GLeague Ignite the past two years. You don't bench THAT guy because you have a starting caliber vet on the roster. Especially on a team that does not care about winning.
