If the Blazers core develops sooner than many expect who would be the next star or next key player the Blazers should target?
I'll throw out an extremely unlikely longshot one for fun - Doncic. Lets say Dallas is a mess this year way in the lottery and needs to totally rebuild. Meanwhile our young core looks amazing. How about this type of trade at the deadline or next summer; Lakers get Kyrie Blazers get Doncic Mavs get Simons, Murray, Rui, D'Angelo, Thybulle, 5 first round picks, all unprotected except the GSW top4 protected. (LAL 2029, BOS 2029, MIL 2029, PDX 2029, GSW 2024) Blazers depth chart after the trade; Ayton - Williams Grant - Camara Doncic - Rupert Sharpe Scoot - Brogdon Not actually sure this group would have enough defense/rebounding to contend... buts its fun to think about.
Perhaps OG to a max contract in a sign and trade next summer for Ant, an expiring and a pick; Ayton Williams Grant Murray OG Camara Sharpe Thybulle Scoot Brogdon or OG for Grant; Ayton Williams OG Murray Sharpe Camara Ant Thybulle Scoot Brogdon
Or if the Blazers just really suck this year - then trade everyone we can for picks and continue the long rebuild; TimeLord and Brogdon to Philly Harden to LAC Salary filler and 3 FRP to Portland (2030 Philly, 2028 & 2030 LAC) Ant for Lowry and 2 FRP (2028 and 2030 Miami) Thybulle to Dallas for filler a 2nd round pick and a pick swap (2026) Grant to the Lakers for filler FRP 2029 and swap 2030. Blazers future firsts in addition to 6-7 of their own picks; 2024 GSW 2026 Dallas Swap 2028 Miami 2028 Mil Swap 2028 LAC 2029 MIL 2029 BOS 2029 LAL 2030 Philly 2030 LAC 2030 Miami 2030 LAL swap 2030 Mil Swap
That's going to be quite a very long while. 4 year rookie deal + 5 year rookie extension, lets say they trade him final season before he walks; That's summer of 2031.....
Probably they are a 30 win team. West is strong. Is this the newest roster in the league? Has to be close if not.
I’d rather draft the next Jalen Williams with a few fliers and deal with churn at the 3 than dump Ant and a pick on Toronto for OG. draft your future stud 6-9+ guy in the lottery and then develop your 3 with Schmitz in the kitchen.
I don't see how Portland can justify trading away a player making $25m year for the next 4 years for a guy who will get signficantly more this summer. With Grant and Ayton's contract on the books, locking those two up with OG long-term, and then hoping Scoot/Sharpe are legit, could put them in a situation where they are trying to manage 5 large contracts at once.
not to mention OG’s injury history and capped upside. I could see it if you’re flipping Grant for OG… but not Ant. Id rather flip Grant and a young player for OG and then trade Ant for firsts.
My target? 58 wins, and a top 3 seed. Preferably HCA in the WCFs, with a chance at HCA in the finals. Oooh, trade target? I'll trade them sucking ass for the next year or two, FOR 58 wins and a top 3 seed. Preferably HCA in the WCFs, with a chance at HCA in the finals.
need to know what the actual core is, and who is in it, before gauging the type of player to add might also need to define what a "core" really means. I think it's almost never more than 3 players; and that's on contenders. Maybe less than 3 on pretenders
yeah I think we're all high on the late offseason moves. now is the information gathering/evaluation period.
Doncic is a point. Needs the ball in his hand. How would he work with Scoot who also needs the ball in his hands? Pass on no defense Doncic.
Great offensive player, but one of the highest usage players in the league. He completely dominates the ball while everyone else stands around and occasionally shoots a '3' off of a kick out pass. That would waste most of the rest of the talent on the team. Tremendous scorer, but with his style and lack of D, I'm not sure how that translates to team winning basketball.
