He wasn’t leading us to the playoffs. We were bound for the 11th seed which probably would’ve given us Gradey Dick. It was the right move to get Scoot instead. With a chance at Wemby!
So you believe that Cronin passed on trades, again in the mere 18 months he had the reins December 2021 to June 2023, that would have made us a contender? REALLY?! Come on man, let it go, we all know there's zero chance that's true. Zero bro. None. If you mean that Joe didn't give up on tremendously valuable future assets of Scoot and Sharpe to tinker around the edges only to end in failure. Sure, maybe that happened, but that would have been malpractice of the highest order had he done it. So again, how is it Cronin's fault? The only reasonable answer based on all known facts is, it is NOT Cronin's fault, but it certainly is Olshey's fault who had over a decade of failure to build a real contender around Dame. Put the blame where it belongs.
That wasn’t Dame’s interest. He wanted Miami and Miami only. We heard it for months. If his sole goal was contending, he would’ve had a longer list from the get go: Boston, Phoenix, Milwaukee, Lakers, Clippers, even Minnesota should’ve been on that list. And, I should add, he would’ve helped Portland because there would’ve been. a bidding war for him.
Then why not ask for a Championship contender? I'd bet dollars to doughnuts Dame had a 12 out of a possible 10 level hot girlfriend in Miami, and/or knew he could find one there and no other championship caliber roster (other than LA) could offer that. Since he did NOT ask for even the LA teams, one can conclude he wanted something about Miami specifically. I'd guess it was a combination of no state income tax, weather, championship contending and TSP. Thinking about it more deeply, maybe it was just money plus championship with TSP as a side note. Top Shelf...
Did anybody hear about our offer to Milwaukee before it happened? How about the Clippers? How about New Orleans? I didn't hear about anything that was available or considered that would have been better than we ended up with. For win now, or for the future. I can't think of anything reasonable either. We needed the next Jimmy Butler situation. And that didn't present itself.
I cant stand the posts that doubt Cronin but simultaneously admit they don't know but then say they doubt he did this or that. As long as you doubt without knowing, you better get used to the rebuttal, cause if we don't know, neither do you!!! And frankly, the timeline says alot if you focused on that then you would have answered your own question for the most part…but anyone who says Joe fucked up, or leans that way regularly dismisses the timeline of events… What we do know is the rumors that the asking price for certain players was far too high. Brown and OG to name a couple. So chill out bro. Cause i cant stand those posts who just assume they know while saying they don't. Which is pretty much what you said. If you dont know, stop judging…
Or a competent GM who didn't over value CJ, and to just pull the trigger the last time Butler was available, or PG-13, or Wiggins. But yeah, it's probably the new boss's fault and not the guy who had over a decade of failure and KNOWN missed opportunities under his belt. Yeah, its the new guy based on, my imagination of what might have happened.
Dame signed his extension and almost all of the fan base gasped that we would be paying him that much in the twilight of his career. That is not a player you go all-in with and trade your future with. Giannis signs his extension and the Bucks breathe a sigh of relief. That is a player you make those kinds of trades with.
Yep, all the Cronin haters are overlooking so many things it's wild. Irrational even by sports fans standards. Also, Dame said he wants to come back and I'm sure he will. Then we can have a reasonable contract Dame in the twilight of his career, help us hit some clutch shots while Scoot and Sharpe take us to our second, third etc. championships!
Why are we still beating this dead horse -- I have made ZERO secret what side of the fence of this issue I am on and I will hold that opinion until proven otherwise BUT by now it's time to put whatever feeling on the whole Dame summer drama in the rear view mirror and move on. This thread should be for talking about how Dame is doing with the Bucks and such NOT rehashing the summer bullshit again and just trying to keep the shit stirred up with Dame fans like myself. My final thought on it is sucks how the summer played out but the rebuild was the right call now time to support the Blazers and if your a Dame fan support him cept when he is playing the Blazers. -- PERIOD Go Blazers and Dame fan 4 Life
Good post. Only legit counter argument I could see is that Joe statements were different. Personally I don't care as GMs are not supposed to give upfront completely true statements. But I could see where Dame felt mislead if he had similar private dialog with Joe. But that doesn't excuse any of Dames actions. Very glad this is where we ended up as I agree once the Clippers trade was done there was no possible way to build a contender around Dame. Dame was delusional about himself, his abilities, and his power. He bluffed, bet his decade of Blazers reputation could get him whatever he wanted, and lost.
Six months ago, I would have agreed with you. Now, not so much. I think something snapped in Dame with the collapse of his marriage. I don't think he would lessen his commitment to basketball, but I do think he would spend A LOT of time in South Beach partying.
Since I predicted Scoot's NBA debut, I will predict Dame's Milwaukee debut 32 pts 4 reb 8 ast 2 stl 1 blk 2 tov
