I hate to feed the trolls, but they do? He had a decent second game against one of the top 5 worst teams in the league, and didn't even crack 20 points in a loss. Yeah he definitely had a good strong showing on Friday, but it's not like he's been plasma tier. His first game was pretty meh as well. Lets give it a few months before we decide anything about this rookie class other than Wemby is absolutely terrifying.

Those are some sobering stats. I was never super hyped about Scoot the way I am about Sharpe, but I thought he was supposed to be some phenom. I'm withholding judgement, but those stats are concerning...

Has there been any PG that's come into the league at age 19 and immediately succeeded? Genuine question. Most recent successful PGs (Trae Young, Halliburton, et. al.) were a little older, weren't they?

Just so long as he doesn't turn out like Telfair...

lol... it's going as expected. Choosing to publicly piss one's pants over the expected and then parade around in distress is not entertaining, it's pathetic

With a big roster turnover overall and so many youngins cutting their teeth, this season is about trusting the process, subtle improvements and silver linings. Expecting this roster to win soon is just silly

Scoot reminds me of prime Detroit Isiah Thomas.

Scoot's best weapon is his speed. This allows him to get to the basket or close enough for one of his pullup shots. It also helps him get assists if he can get penetration and pass before the defense is set up. I think he or the coach was so worried about turnovers though that he has now intentionally slowed down. (Apparently Brogdon also in his ear to do this.)
Without his speed, and lacking a great shot, he is not very effective right now. Hopefully, as he gets used to the NBA game, he will make decisions quicker and be able to get back up to speed.
There is one other way the team could approach this though. Tell him to just keep going as fast as he can and hope his processing speed eventually catches up to his physical speed. This might hurt the team while helping him, although it might also hurt his confidence too much, so it seems probably best just to let him slow down some for awhile, although this makes him much less effective for awhile. Kind of a tossup for me.

in the lead-up to the draft, there’s no discussion about who you take at #3. not saying that’s how the draft plays out over 10-15 years, but there was nobody else based on what’s known in June 2023 that should be taken #3 if Wemby and Miller are gone.

I think he needs to focus on his finishing at the hoop and passing more than slowing down.
He's short-arming layups where in the summer league he would make the extra effort to do a reverse layup and succeed even when he was being fouled/contacted by two players simultaneously.
In summer league he seemed more aware of the defense around him. That's very important for him, and looks like it's just something that will come with time.
Having a better offense would help too.
Ausar Thompson was very effective helping his team to rotate and keep passing the ball until it got to an open man.

Scoot needs to be able to get into the paint and find open lanes to shooters. That's not really possible right now because we have no shooting. Everyone is shooting like ass this season except Brogdon.

It's the same reason why Ayton is struggling whenever we feed him in the paint. Here is Sharpe and Ayton running a pick and roll. Four Magic are in the paint. Banchero is sagging heavy off Grant. If Grant can't hit his threes (he's 1-9 so far this year) then we are sunk. Losing Simons really hurts our spacing.

Easy. Grant's man is playing off of him.

Sharpe turns the corner and fakes a pass to Mays while Grant cuts to the hoop for an alley oop from Sharpe.
Or Sharpe could pass to Mays who dribbles in then throws the lob to Grant. Banchero would be totally focused on keeping anyone from driving in and wouldn't be watching Grant.

This would be a perfect use of Grant's length.
