If it's only 1 FRP do we hold firm for more at the deadline?

We don't really need to move him this year so on the one hand can hold out for more this summer. On the flip side we've seen how TimeLord injury can flip an asset to a liability quickly and Grant is owed a ton of money. So there an argument just to take whatever the best value is there at the deadline.

 

Obi is not a good basketball player.

 

I would just hold out for a better deal honestly, unless that ‘25 1st is unprotected. Obi just isn’t the right player for this team. I see Walker being a better overall player than Obi eventually, and Camara already is the superior defender.

The only reason I would want to do this deal is if we knew we could swing Brogdon and Hield to the Heat for Lowry, filler, and the ‘28 and ‘30 unprotected 1sts. Knowing Pat, I can’t see this happening. Although it would suck to not get any prospect of value at the wing position, the obvious play would’ve been for the picks, which would be 4 more added. That would also take the current deal from the Dame trade to 5 total 1sts, 2 swaps.

Cam, one of the ‘27 1sts and maybe their worst 1st in the next few years, and filler would be a better deal for Grant than the one you’ve outlined with Indy imo. We’ll just have to wait close to the deadline to see what deals are actually available.

 

I’d probably hold firm. We traded a poor 1st for Grant, but that had everything to do with leverage. Unless it was 1 unprotected 1st from a bad team (which wouldn’t make sense for them to trade for Grant in the first place), I don’t see a reason to sell on him for exactly what we got him for. Even if I got something at a discount, I’m still going to expect retail price if I resell it. At least that’s my reason to wait.

Grant has only gotten better since coming from Detroit to Portland imo. If teams are only offering bad 1sts, 2 bad 1sts has to be the price tag, minimum. Who’s for sure selling besides us at the deadline? The Bulls should, but will they? Masai has held on to OG after three years of trade rumors—is he finally going to sell on either OG or Siakam? I’m honestly not sure what he’ll do. The Jazz could possibly trade pieces. That’s not many sellers, compared to the endless buyers this year.

 

Everyone talks about wanting that "3 and D" wing. That's Jerami Grant. He's SF, and if he played SF his lack of rebounding wouldn't be as much of an issue. Plus, he's offense is not limited to spot up shooting....

 

No reason to trade him either. Salary cap has a floor too. We need his salary. And his veteran leadership.

 

Yesterday's game had me really impressed. His ability to hit contested jumpshots is something we cannot survive without at the moment. If he could rebound worth a shit he'd be a better Brandon Ingram.

 

Hopefully his rebounding is getting better: I'm sure Billups has told him "you don't want to be that 6'8" guy who everyone says can't rebound."
Although I see his last ten games only 3.8 rebounds a game.

We need vets. We need vets who like Portland and the coaching staff. There’s zero reason to trade grant for another rookie in this draft

 

One unlikely win has people tripping. Jerami is increasing his trade value and I definitely wouldn't give the guy away but he should be traded for a really good return around the deadline.

 

I'd trade Ant before any vet on the roster..we have his replacement already with Scoot and Sharpe and Mays is value for the buck as a solid backup pt guard. I think keeping vets who are two way players is the better move and the better example for the rookies. If you don't trade Ant, Brogdan would probably be moved but I think that's a mistake.

 

I am in less of a rush to trade Grant unless there is a sweet deal. I’m more inclined to deal MB because we have Simons coming back soon.

 

I don't want the Blazers to become a dumpster fire like the Detroit Pistons and the San Antonio Spurs currently are.

 

At what point to we build with what we have? All these 'Trade MB', 'Trade Grant' mentions is puzzling to me. Everybody says we need young talent but what do we want that young talent to end up being? MB and Grant! Why trade for the hope of developing these types when we finally have them? I read the the timeline is wrong for MB, but watching these games it seems like now is the time to go for it. The guys that are not in the time-line seem to be Sharpe and Scoot. I was hoping they were the future and they still might be, but they both have a long, long way to go. Why not trade them to add to the core we have right now and go for a playoff run? Then next year add the essential piece(s).

Superstars are not coming so build the best 8 you can. We actually have nice bench role pieces for once. Once we get Simons shooting back to play along with MB, Grant and Ayton, we can compete. Walker, MT, and Camara add a great pressure defense off the bench or mix and match them in the starting lineup. I am usually the pessimist, but I really see this core competing and Ants scoring will free things up. I just don't see how more trades gets us closer if we have to add by subtracting. I don't see trading Sharpe and Scoot as subtracting at this point. I am very disappointed in their lack of progress. Just my opinion.

 

I want Scoot to be a lot better than Malcolm Brogdon.

 

That doesn't make sense any more after trading Dame.

Scoot and Sharpe aren't playing as well as we hoped, but they are definitely contributing to the wins.

 

Want and get are two different matters. I don't see it. I wanted him based on the videos I saw of his explosiveness and that has not materialized one bit. We all knew he couldn't shoot, but he lost the one thing he had. Waiting for him to lead us seems like 4 years of real big disappointment to me. Love to be wrong.

Lillard was not taking us anywhere. We needed him to get a team. We are playing like a team for the first time in years. Yes, with less individual talent but team talent is our only chance. No prime LeBron's walking through our door any time soon.

And I have watched every game and in very few instances have those two contributed to the wins. Scoot is lost and is making high school mental mistakes while Sharpe doesn't want the ball in clutch times. It has to be forced upon him. Not saying that either won't eventually improve, but will it be to the point of leading us? I wish I could be confident in that but my eyes tell me no.
