I'd honestly prefer a progressive tax that covers all of Oregon's roads and then a toll on out of state drivers to cover the rest.

combining the drivers looking to avoid tolls and the burnside bridge closed, along with the 205 oregon city bridge work, sounds like traffic is gonna be hell for a while.

This is kind of awesome. After the earthquake, we'll have our very own Bridge to Nowhere.

This bridge to nowhere is in the San Gabriel mountains in Southern California, and is (now) in a wilderness area. The road to it washed away in a flood, but the bridge didn't. I've hiked to it.

Which of the Portland bridges that span the Willamette meet modern earthquake standards?

    The Tillicum and the Sellwood.

And yes, in an emergency you can drive your car across the Tillicum.

Honestly don't remember the distance, it was ~30 years ago. Google says 10 miles.

Cars kill people, ban private citizens from owning cars.

Yep. Sounds about like typical logic.
Of course, we could just make the necessary changes to give people a better option. How about public transit, based on electricity, that gets you to any other city in Oregon in half the time as driving?

    Totally doable.

Sounds just like New York city, and a good way to get mugged.

How do we safely travel through each cities gangs to reach our home city? Will we need to travel in fighting gangs like in the movie "The Warriors"?

It's just as easy to be followed home in your car and robbed at home.

In fact, it happens all the time.

With even decent security it would probably be easier to protect you on public transit.

Pretty sure cars kill many more people than guns. Banem all.

Wait. Okay. What percentage of car owners are looking to rob another driver on the road compared to public transit passengers looking to rob fellow passengers?

I have no clue on stats but i would find it very hard to believe that they are even remotely close.
Im not sure how it can be just as easy. Not seeing that at all.
in this city, mass transit is very hard to expand alot more. 84 is maxed out. The hills and rivers, etc.
to massively expand mass transit to remove a decent percentage of traffic would be an astronomical cost I would imagine
They are closing the burnside bridge for 5 years to work on it. It took 5 years to build the new max/pedestrian bridge near the ross island bridge.
This city wasnt built to expand within. Narrow streets lack of thruways, etc.

We have trains all over the place. Max, and streetcars. There are many examples of cities all over the world with even worse conditions than Portland which have far better mass transit.

In fact, the whole Portland Metro area was covered by streetcars in the 50s and 60s
