Rubio came up in a system. Plus he had passing gifts that probably only a single-digit number of players in the league have, and that's something you can't learn. Scoot may have above average skills in that department if we're lucky.

Has Rubio officially retired? Last I heard he was taking a mental health break. I WISH we had a lob-thrower like that on our roster.

I wonder if those frames affect his peripheral vision. As far as I know he's the first point guard to wear them - it's always been front court players, sick of getting poked in the eye on rebounds.

Is he wearing them because he's unused to contacts or are they prescription? Get contacts and ditch the goggles, say I.

There was a report saying he is wearing the goggles because the contacts are new and they didn’t want him rubbing his eye or it being a distraction.

...time to invent sport goggles that enhance peripheral vision! I had some snorkel goggles that did just that.

Hield shot 39% from three in college (132 games), 39% from three as an NBA rookie; and 43% his 2nd season. That's not a broken-shooter

I agree that all the Scoot-as-bust chatter is ridiculous. A 9 game sample size is about as close to irrelevant as you can get for a rookie.

On the other hand, the knock against Scoot before the draft was his shooting, and what he's done so far shooting the ball (33% on FG's; 43% on two's; 19% on three's) isn't encouraging and seems to confirm that his shot needs a lot of work. It also doesn't help the cause any that his turnover rate is higher than his assist rate

he seems to be doing a lot better coming off the bench than when he was starting. I think the 'baptism-by-fire' as a starter overwhelmed him, and that is skewing his numbers pretty dramatically

Haven't heard of the contacts or that its the reason for the goggles. I assumed the goggles were from an injury although I heard Marang say something about how Scoot liked wearing them, also liked the style, and might keep them long term.

If he recently got contacts or something to improve his vision I could see that really messing with your game and taking awhile to adjust to. Long term should be great, but short term when your used to things a bit blurry it's going to take time to adjust. I'd assume especially so in a fast paced hand eye coordination game like basketball.

Brooke reported that the goggles are to prevent scoot from touching his eyes as a first-time contact lens wearer.

Yeah I prefer Scoot playing his role at a higher level even if it's a much reduced role or off the bench.

He doesn't gain much by starting and playing huge minutes with lots of reps but giving us horrible performances. If anything that could be destructive to his career, even worse than DNPs.

This ties to some of the reason I prefer the Blazers push to win this year than do everything to push 100% youth and ensure a top pick. Even trying to win and using some vets we might back into a great pick. But pushing to compete makes a big difference.

I know he’s struggling but his advanced analytics are historically bad so far.

These numbers make Armon Johnson look like prime Steve Nash — they’re that bad.

Scoot’s passing has been solid so far but everything else has been putrid.

I assume if we did the draft now Ausar would be our pick, he seems to be the best performing rookie player after the Wemby/Miller 1/2 selections.

His 1.2 PER has been an improvement though.

He’s no longer putting up a negative PER :banghead2:

Not judging anything for 3 years.

I’ll have theories and opinions, but I won’t say anything conclusively until 3 years - other than my signature — DONT DRAFT SCOOT.

Right now he looks like Steve Blake level starting PG in the future or maybe Andre Miller level. Certainly not CP3 level.

I don't think his D has been putrid. His pull-up mid-range has promise and his 3-point shot is at 35% since his return. ( I refuse to count his desperation 3 from 60 feet at the end of the quarter last night)

Where he has been " putrid" has been the shocker to me.....attacking the basket. He often passes well out of it, but when he shoots it in that situation, it has not come close. And that to me looks more like an adjustment issue. He seems surprised that when gets in the lane there is no place to go.

of course we expected much more from the 3rd pick (even in this very small sample size), but things like this happen

time will tell if hes a bust (he will be if he doesnt become multiple time all-star), im patient and optimistic

however, im not seeing elite athleticism that was supposedly his biggest attribute and you dont need to learn the game to be quick

He has played in what 9 games and missed nine cause of injury and we have tools who want to label him a bust are we really going to even entertain this crap. I said this thread never should have happened and now that it gained some steam from tools who believe this load of crap it continued I will double down on that and say if you believe this load of crap then your silly and have no clue about basketball. Also if were still at a place where he has not grown by the all star break and he has not improved then maybe a touch of concern should be had but until then LAY THE F off him.

This is coming from a die hard Dame fan and I know some Dame fans are like we traded Dame and we got this and are prolly a little heated but a rebuild was prolly needed so these are the growing pains so patience is needed. However I am done trying to talk down the tools cause you have your opinion and it's not worth me getting upset over stupid so believe what you will and we will see where were at in a few months.

The title of this thread is stupid.

But if it was titled "Are you concerned Scoot will never be a franchise PG?" it would have relevant discussions and a lot of justifiable concern.

I can't imagine anyone that was high on Scoot being the #3 pick that would be happy with this outcome if you had told them of it in June.
