Because Markannen isn't a #1 and they're too good to truly tank enough to get one. PLUS those Minny picks aren't looking so hot anymore.
I wonder if they'd do Markannen for Simons... that would seem to solve a lot of issues for both teams. Move Grant. Move Brogdon. Or do you keep Grant and move him to SF? Scoot Sharpe Grant Markannen Ayton On paper that looks great, but holy shit there wouldn't be enough basketballs to go around. I like starting Camara. So flip side, could we get enough picks if we moved Grant and Brogdon?
True. But I think this lineup would be fine. Scoot Sharpe Camara Markannen Ayton Scoot is perfectly happy distributing the ball. Camara isn't expecting shots. Ayton is Ayton. So really you only have to find shots for Sharpe and Markannen.
Simons strikes me as someone they'd be more interested in building around, but maybe I'm wrong. We already have Sharpe/Scoot.
They already have Colin Sexton who's cheaper and comparable if not better. Neither is a player to build around.
This much I know. Simons and Grant aren't good for Sharpe. Need to get different skill sets in return for those guys.
I really don't think Sexton is remotely as good as Simons. Side note... what the fuck did Basketball reference do to their site? What section is the player comparison located in now? They screwed it up. Now there's a bunch of sites that people use more like cleaningtheglass.com
in the search bar at the top, just type 'compare' and it will get you to the page. Yeah, it's a little awkward, but that works. At least it does for now
I don't think OG makes sense for them either. Plus he's gonna want to get PAID this summer. I think DA wants to do a full rebuild and the team needs to break down further to do that. Danny probably wants to go full tank mode for 2025.
I think Markkanen would be awesome but he's not worth 5 FRP. I wonder if we could get enough assets from trades of Grant/Brogdon to flip over to Utah for Markkanen.
Over the past year+, Sexton's PER, TS%, AST%, WS are all superior. I think there are arguments in favor of either. They're certainly comparable.
I think we'd need to add to whatever assets we got from them. My fear is, Lauri only has 1 more year left on his deal, and then will likely be looking for something close to what Jaylen Brown just signed. In 1 year, do we wanna commit 50 million dollars to Markannen? I like the idea of flipping assets from those 2 in general for a more proven player, instead of the thought of bringing in like 4 rookies next season, but ideally it'd be someone with more control.
The only team that can afford that price is OKC. Adding Markkanen to that roster would be damn scary for the rest of the league.
