I don’t think they do unless Siakam or OG goes back to Indy.

Yeah, the problem is that they need another superstar to pair with Hali and Grant isn't it. He's maybe a third option at best. Would he help them get to the playoffs? Sure. I'm sure they'd even make some noise. But if they truly want to go far, they need another star.

If we're truly tanking, we could do Grant to Indy for Hield/Walker/pick

    Brogdon/Wainright to Miami for Lowry/Jovic/pick

So your haul for those two guys is

    Lowry
    Hield
    Jovic
    Walker
    2028 Heat first
    2024 Pacers pick

That wouldn't be a bad haul. Lowry can take over as the mentor for Scoot. Jovic and Walker are a couple young power forwards that we can develop. We get a couple more picks. Nothing super exciting.

Indiana would be great fit for Grant. However you agreed that they would not give up Walker for him...

Then you suggest Walker + Hield + Pick? There's no chance in hell they'd give up that much.

That's not what I said. I never said they wouldn't give up Walker. I said that realistically Grant isn't the piece that they truly need, but I have no idea what KP is thinking. I don't know how motivated he is. If they truly wanted Grant, that's what I'd ask for. The main reason why I haven't wanted to get rid of Grant is that there really aren't any forwards who can do what he does and are available. He doesn't really fit our window but he's the best forward we have had since LMA. It's sad really. The league is starving for forwards and Grant is a borderline All-Star caliber forward who can shoot the three and defend multiple positions. He's not even really paid that badly. So if KP thinks they can make a run and Grant is the only guy who's available and an upgrade, maybe he does that trade.

When I remarked and said Indiana trading Walker for Grant was "highly doubtful".... and your immediate response (quoting me) started with "Yeah" -> how else was I supposed to take your response, beside agreeing that Walker was likely off the table?

    It doesn't matter...

Grant would be a great fit in Indiana, but we'd be lucky to get back Buddy + Topin + future 1st. Obviously, we'd try to route Buddy elsewhere (maybe BRK for DFS?).

I don’t think a package of Buddy + Obi + the ‘25 1st would make us lucky. That’s pretty much the low-tier/bare minimum package I’d expect back for Grant. The ‘25 DEN 1st of the same value as the ‘25 MIL 1st. Neither Buddy nor Obi are players I expect to ever suit up for us.

We can trade Toppin to a bad team who might take a flier on him for a win-now vet + any 2nd, then route Toppin and Buddy to a team for a protected 1st in ‘26 or ‘27.

It’s going to be funny if a team like Indy can land OG or Siakam and the Blazers couldn’t when they had Dame. Especially when it’s reported that Masai Ujiri is so difficult to deal with.

I'd bet Siakam and OG stay put by the deadline and possibly even walk this summer. Masai holds out for soo much, and to not even make an offer for Dame but then accept something less months later would look very bad. I think he'd rather roll the dice on them walking and if they do he can blame it on the city of Toronto.

It's almost like Ujiri would rather let a player walk for nothing than to have someone say he lost a trade.

I didn't mean to insinuate that Buddy+Topin+Pick was great value for Grant....
Just that is the absolute most I could see Indiana giving up. Likely their offer would be worse.

Indiana has the threat of cap space. They can potentially sign one of the players as a UFA.... Portland never had that leverage.

My hope is that the Pelicans give up on Zion and they like Grant.

Tanking? We're pace to be worse than last year and just lost at home to the Wizards. There's no need to tank.

Trading Grant would just make the point differential worse in our losses. We can't keep trading good players for picks. At some point you have to start holding onto guys.

Right now, Grant and Simons are the only two players that could be considered good starters on a playoff team. Shape seems to have the best shot at becoming the 3rd, but there are holes are everywhere else.

Grant is shooting the 3-ball very well this season. 42%.
Can catch and shoot from a high release.
Good one-on-one defender against someone like Jayson Tatum.
Good dribbling and finishing when the lane isn't clogged.
    He's got some valuable skills.

    https://syndication.bleacherreport....act-discount-was-eyeing-40m-per-year.amp.html

Interesting bit on OG’s upcoming contract. Says he was looking for $40m a year, but was willing to take less if he landed with the Knicks. Not sure how big of a discount he is considering—At $35m/yr, his contract would be 4 yr/$140m. With the injuries always being a concern, I would not consider that deal a better one than Grant’s current deal. That’s assuming OG would consider a 12.5% expectation cut at all.

PG and Kawhi will both be making $45m on their new deals. Probably 3 years instead of 5, but it is still a large chunk of cap space. Siakam will get $40m+, and the only place I see Tobias taking a pay cut for is the 6ers. Hayward is the only other notable forward, and he could even see $25m this summer, who knows.

Grant’s contract is going to immediately look better once we see some of these contracts that will be thrown at these forwards this summer.

    Batum
    Covington
    Reed
    Morris
    ‘26 PHI 1st
    ‘28 unprotected LAC 1st
    ‘29 LAC Swap

    for

    Grant
    Brogdon

This is an idea I saw that I quite liked. We would basically get the Harden package back from Phily for Grant, and get another 1st and Reed for Brogdon. The LAC unprotected 1st and swap are going to be valuable later this decade.

Our 2028 draft would include an unprotected 1st from LAC, unprotected swap with Milwaukie, and the Warriors unprotected 2nd (which could be in the 30s when Curry retires). Our 2029 draft would include unprotected 1sts from Boston, Milwaukie, and an unprotected swap with LAC.

Holy Fucking Hell, you like this why? That is filler crap, a very late 1st, and who knows what the Clipper pick will be, but that's 4 years down the road and the Clippers are now a "destination" like the Lakers and will not likely suck.

We could get better than that for Grant alone.
