so, the Pelicans are 'paying' a 2nd to get under the tax line by dumping Lewis...?

I think this is a decent gamble by Indiana. I'm assuming no protections on the picks, but the two 2024 first's could both be in the 20's in what many are saying is a weak draft. And if Indy can re-sign Siakam their 2026 first might be in the 20's as well

Yeah, Pelicans get under the tx dumping Lewis, and Indy absorbs him in to cap space, then can aggregate him with Brown and Nwora to make the $$ work on Pascal, while adding a 2nd for it.

Yeah, they can't fool anyone with Brogdon. They don't start him now even though he is currently our best PG.
So other teams know he is not in our future plans.

Grant, on the other hand, the Blazers can at least pretend that they want to keep him.

Curious as to why Toronto did not wait till closer to the trade deadline. Brown is ok and the picks look to be in the 20's. It is possible that Indiana had another deal lined up and pushed to complete this now. One would think a similar deal would still have been there later, possibly better.

Toronto has been shopping Siakam for months so they knew the market. It might have been a 'why wait' situation for them

meanwhile, Indy has 13 games between now and the deadline. They may have been pushing the Raptors to get the deal done ASAP; having 40 games with Siakam would be a lot better from their POV than 28 games. I doubt it happened, but Indy could have been asking for protections on the pick(s) if this deal happened at the deadline

3 firsts (low though they may be) is more than most expected Toronto to be able to get for a dude who's expiring. I don't blame them for taking this deal.

now that the siakam piece is down and set the market, offers for grant should start to appear soon.

orlando/sac/gs/dal among my initial thought of potential suitors. maybe even OKC.

also, a ridiculous overpay from indy in my estimation. assurance that he won't leave this summer also does little for me considering he's expecting 200+ mil.

that's a second round team, at best. and now with very few ways to get better than that.

KP shoots another team in the foot.

I don’t know why Cronin wouldn’t even entertain it. Siakam is just the first of possibly many overpays. That’s one team that thinks they’re good enough to compete in the east.

The beginning of the season, I thought Cronin was playing kingmaker with Milwaukie, then Boston.

The picks just aren't that great. 2 mid to late 20's picks in this year's Draft which is considered quite a poor Draft. Then another one in a couple of years when Indy could be pretty darn good if they re-sign Siakam. Those 3 picks are WAY worse than the multiple Lottery picks he wanted from Portland for OG.

Is it possible that the Pacers would still want Jerami? They didn't trade either of Hield or Walker per reports and that would be the package that would make the most sense to me, with us moving Hield to another team like the Lakers.

I think Jerami and Siakam would be pretty great together as forwards.

That and Toronto owes a pick to SA, top 6 protected. It makes sense for them to tank as much as possible

I dunno--I'll be very interested to see how well Haliburton and Siakam pair; they're probably the best 1-4 combo in the league outside of Milwaukee.

But I mean, why do you trade Walker for Grant if you don’t trade Walker for Siakam.

Toronot fans would riot if they see Indy trading Walker for Grant a few days later LOL.

Yeah, not terrible in the grand scheme of things, ESPECIALLY if Walker or Mathurin pop. That team should look great for a good while.

There was a lot of discussion around that this offseason with regard to the Blazers potentially pursuing Siakam. Seemed like most in this forum didn't think that sliding Grant down to the 3 would work well.

I tend to agree with you that it would at the very least be worth consideration.

In the east is what he maybe meant.

I don't really think of Booker as a 1, but I guess he has been this year. Still, Haliburton has been arguably the best PG in the league, and while there's clearly a gulf between Durant and Siakam, I think the pairing in IND will be better than the one in PHX.

I would call both Sabonis and Chet 5's.
