I think the assists will come; he certainly wanted to dish a lot very early in the season but of course nobody was catching his passes. I think Billups might be kind of rebuilding Scoot from first principles to fit the team, which has turned Scoot into a scorer for now. Giving Scoot a three turnover limit per game (mentioned by the play by play team during the Milwaukee game) probably is part of that. When Scoot learns control better, he will be given more leash, and I think next year he will turn into a more assist-oriented guy.

at the same time, making him work on first step moves and penetration, taking contact and getting to the line might end up evolving him into a different kind of guard, more in the Rose style rather than Nash. I’m interested to see what kind of player he is in two years.

He looked like rookie D.Rose last night.

FAMS...... my prayers have been answered. I still see a mix of Westbrook and D Rose.

Wondering how this place would be reacting right now if he was averaging a Triple-Double and how they would be spinning it. He'd be an all star/all NBA player. But HIS triple doubles would be different huh? HA... this place bro.

I dunno, would Scoot be missing shots on purpose and shoving Ayton out the way to get the rebound?

Since Scoot doesn’t have the top-end, Uber-athleticism of Westbrook and D.Rose, how happy would people here be if Scoot has the production of Chauncey in Detroit? 16 and 6. Maybe not at 90% from the line or approaching 40% from 3. But a guy who gets to the line and hits. Who shoots set shot and catch and shoot 3’s to go with foot in the paint scoring. Whose combinations of strength and functional speed is really good. And who is a willing defender and looks to make plays for others on O. A total team guy.

Scoot looks like a guy who loves hoops and team ball.

What makes you say that about his athleticism? He is pretty much the fastest and quickest guy on the court every night... he's also been showing his vertical explosiveness more and more lately. Turns out the guy can jump both broad and high.

Seriously this take would have made sense like ten games ago but right now reads like you haven't been watching him play lately. That's from the athleticism comment to the comments about his shooting.

Exactly. His first step is confirmed super fast, and his decision making on that first step is the right amount of presumptive, giving him an even faster jump on his defender. He can dunk and can hold his position into contact. When you also have Sharpe on your team, I guess everyone looks less than uber-athletic, but for mere mortals with less than a 50" vertical, he's really really good.

Rose at that age was a much better finisher. But Scoot has an all around more complete game.

My best comp I can think of is young Jason Kidd. Very similar in how they operate. Scoot better touch at that point in their careers

Id like to add that when SS is healthy, putting a solid offensive slasher next to Scoot will likely improve his assist numbers as well.

Nice to see others talking about Scoot improving. He still makes mistakes but glad to see him getting better.

I didn't realize he had 5+ assists in 14 games (10+ in 4 games) already.

What is very promising , especially for a rookie, is how often Scoot is getting to the free-throw line.

Oftentimes that's the difference between an inconsistent role player and a star player. The free throws keep you scoring even when the shooting is off.

very true. Just look at Dame and his elevation when he started getting the calls. Regardless of his shooting he was almost always 20+ points a night. Never really had low scoring games after that.

That's what separates him from other prospects. His body is why he's going to eat at the line for his career. That's what separates good players from great players.
