I know I think every Cronin presser is terrible, but my goodness this Cronin presser is horrible.

What would've made you think it was a home run press conference to where you had no complaints afterwards?

    Damn.

This was identical to a Neil Olshey presser.

    Regurgitated quotes.

However, I think keeping Malcolm is a win for Scoot’s development.

Not contradicting himself multiple times and not admitting he wanted to keep Brogdon despite him having a ton of interest (according to Chauncey).

Did we know 100% he wanted to keep him though? Did I miss quotes of him saying he was never going to be traded and we wanted to keep him? Serious question, not snark.

Looking more like a few more years of losing. Or do we just call it tanking to make ourselves feel better?

    From Sean Highkin:

I'm sure there's a way to interpret this differently, and that's probably why it was worded as such.

Malcom has been Chauncey’s guy all along and he publicly stated numerous times how he values him and has a great admiration for him. I look for a trade this off season that could include Simons and some.

    Where is the contradiction?

Isn't he just saying he doesn't want to keep getting worse but he also isn't trying to make a move that is only good in regards to getting better in the short-term?

Seems like a reasonable plan, but as I've said before: It's easy to get worse, it's much harder to become good again. He's done the easy part. I think this is why both you and I were skeptical of trading Dame.

I'll be damned...Looks like the team feels the same way I do. This is a good team that just needs a little time to bake and a little luck with injuries—way to go Joe Cronin.

The Sixers had their system for quite a few years of being bad and getting some good picks and it eventually paid off.

The Thunder are seeing success at failing for a time.

I am more afraid of becoming the Clippers of yore, perpetually bad; or the current Pistons, lots of picks but not a lot of cohesive talent.

I wonder if Sharpe being injured and out the past month (and for a lot longer now) played into their "trades" or lack thereof. Hard to see how some of your key guys are developing when they are sidelined.

I think many of us realized the rebuild path after Dame was going to be a long and likely painful one.

It's easiest to do absolutely nothing. Getting worse requires a plan to use that move to get better. One step back for two steps forward is tougher than sitting on the ground while people claim you can't walk.

So when do we hand Scoot the keys to the bus? We didn’t just trade our beloved franchise guy to draft Scoot #3 to have him come off the bench. You would think his development would be quicker being that he was said to be NBA ready coming out of the draft.

You aren't implying Cronin has done nothing are you? He's made "bigger" moves in his first 2 years than we made for the previous 8 years combined. Or are you saying because he didn't want to get even worse at this deadline, that he failed? How many consecutive deadlines/off-seasons of getting worse is the goal?

I would've loved to see Brogdon moved for reasonable assets that better fit the long term direction of the team. If Cronin turned down a good trade for Brogdon, then I will be disappointed.

Knicks were not willing to give up a first...
so it would have been Fournier + crappy seconds

What, like Dame forcing Joe to trade him? Or Jody Allen forcing Joe under the tax at the 2022 deadline? Or Dame securing Cronin the Grant trade? Or drafting players?

He did nothing but sell in the last three transactional periods (trade deadline, off-season, trade deadline) and the last two he didn't sign/trade for a single meaningful piece whatsoever to help a direction, whether that's trying to win or rebuild.

In a rebuild, getting worse at thee deadline by trading Brogdon for a pick/young player is beneficial to the rebuild. He's a 31-year old guard and we have three young guards. They should be stockpiling assets for the future so that we can be in the market for a star (or have enough chances to draft one) so that we don't make the same mistake with Scoot/Sharpe/Ant that we made with Dame (i.e. being stuck in the middle and being unable to get to contention).
