    If he gets his ass handed to him, it will indeed be his fault. And, I suppose, if the reverse happens, then it will be to his credit.

    Yeah, I'm one of those. One of those who realizes that a big majority in congress makes it possible to get more of your platform enacted.

    I'm not one of those who thinks every legislative failure is due to corruption and/or lack of effort or refusal to use some imaginary leverage over other politicians.

    I'm not suggesting that. He could have told Joe that he would give his wife a job if he played ball and stopped listening to his donors. He could have said, he could make his daughter's life extremely difficult if he didn't play ball. Let's not pretend those types of deals aren't made all the time.

    I think most people would describe it as corruption, regardless if it's legal or not. It being legal just gives credence that the system needs to be ripped from its roots.

    Yeah, or we're underestimating the sheer hatred for Donald Trump. Nobody I know who voted for Biden was particularly excited by him. We know what he is. We just despised Trump that much more.


    Anytime you're citing the Parliamentarian as to why you can't make good on your election promises, there's definitely credence being given to the thought that Democrats promise one thing and sabotage their promises purposefully so that they don't succeed. There's always a foil that comes out of nowhere and no pressure put on those foils. Instead, they just keep praising Manchin and how Sinema is so smart. They were great fall guys. Biden could have done more on the student loan debt debacle. We disagree that there isn't a slight of words and intentions happening regularly. Washington is all theater.

    On the wife job, we don't know for sure that that wasn't the deal, either express or implied.
    Maybe Manchin reneged on his end. Or maybe it was to get his vote on something else (the infrastructure act, for example).

    On the daughter, what you are proposing would be corrupt by ANY definition of corruption. Do you only object to corruption when it doesn't serve your ends?

    Yeah, we disagree. You believe the President has magic powers to accomplish whatever you want, regardless of any opposition from voters and/or congress. I don't.

    You're twisting yourself in knots trying to explain Biden's pitiful performance. You hold the job until you get what you want. If he reneged on his deal than the whole party would be admonishing him right now, but they're not. They kiss his ass.

    My ends? Or the American people's? Suddenly you understand what corruption means? I'm sure the American people wouldn't object. And for the record, I don't think that's corruption.

    West Virginia state legislature overwhelmingly passed a bill amending obscenity law to enable felony charges with jail time against any teacher, librarian or museum curator who displays "obscene" material where minors can view it, even if accompaniment by parent or guardian. What is obscene? Any depiction or description of nudity, sex, or certain bodily functions.

    Take your kids to art museum where nude paintings are displayed? Check out library book about sex education? Read popular book Gulp by Mary Roach, which describes in detail what happens to your nice dinner? Jail time.

    According to the bill amended:

    (k) “Obscene matter” means matter that:
    (1) An average person, applying contemporary adult community standards, would find, taken as a whole, appeals to the prurient interest, is intended to appeal to the prurient interest, or is pandered to a prurient interest;
    (2) An average person, applying community standards, would find depicts or describes, in a patently offensive way, sexually explicit conduct; and
    (3) A reasonable person would find, taken as a whole, lacks serious literary, artistic, political or scientific value.
    ​
    Emphasized the "and" because it's important to recognize that all three qualifications must apply. So, no--their definition of obscene is not, "Any depiction or description of nudity, sex, or certain bodily functions."

    Florida has a serious measles outbreak caused by antivaxxers. Are people being advised to keep sick children under quarantine so they won't infect others? Hell no. The quack state surgeon general said people sick with measles should not quarantine, children should go to school with measles and don't get vaccine.

    Taking illness seriously is too woke for the free state of Florida.
