Your broader point is right though. Schneider is going to get a bump in minutes and responsibility. For that to work and to ensure he does not burn out before playoffs we need a reliable guy behind him to hold down 3RD and eat some minutes. That was never going to be Zac Jones. Despite potentially throwing away the next Igor Shesterkin in the 2027 draft, this was a shrewd move.
Maybe shrewd, I don't want to get down on the move before we even see him in action. I just think the Rangers didnt need to another 5'10" defenseman.
Yeah he’s not huge, but he’s also got about 25 pounds of playing weight over Zac Jones. Guy is 33 years old, he has been around and knows how to play.
It is this, Drury has no clue and no plan, that is so crystal clear you see it in so many ways. It is sad, and he never should have been given the job in the first place, way over his head. I don't want to hear anyone complain about Vegas or TB and how they play the system, they are smart. We have money from Chytil, don't do anything with it. We could have used the Trouba money, but Drury doesn't, on and on. And with no one of impact added, and now Trouba out, this team is done with regards to being a legit Cup threat this season. Yes, they'll be in the playoffs and finish 1st or 2nd in the Met, but it will be a quick exit again unfortunately.
What a commentary on where we are. Losing Trouba for a few weeks, and then calling adding at best journeyman dman Chad Ruhwedel a potentially shrewd move. Yes, he is better than barely played in the NHL Zac Jones, wow have we set the bar low. Trouba's injury makes it even worse that despite cap space and assets Drury's "shrewd" move was add Chad Ruhwedel, not someone decent, but a journeyman dman. I feel like I'm living in a bizzarro spin world here....
These are two separate issues that are not related. Yes my opinion is that adding Ruhwedel for depth on the right and the playoff 7D, in exchange for a pick 4 years from now is shrewd. Not weaponizing potential cap space through LTIR is a huge miss. Both things can be true, no? We can discuss Ruhwedel taking 3RD minutes without grand statements about the state of the team. Trouba timeline wasn’t announced until well after the DL. It’s possible they would have pursued this if they found something they liked at an agreeable price but who knows. Drury doesn’t strike me as the guy who would have done so, hence my original comment about not taking advantage of this.
I agree with your first point in that I don't have an issue with the value of a Ruhwedel for a 4th round pick. The odds of a 4th round pick being something of real value are slim, so we agree there, and I understand your point shrewd within the context of who he is. Bigger picture, if we really weren't going to make any big moves, I am not sure what the point of adding Ruhwedel was though, seems kind of pointless given where we are going this season. We just rearranged chairs on the Titanic. Yes, he is better than Jones, but we should have been targeting someone better, not a 7th dman career journeyman. As for Trouba, and the timeline, and Drury, I struggle to think he found out Drury was out for a few weeks late today. I am sure he had at least an idea, and still nothing of real value. Overall, it is just a major fail by Drury IMO. You watch all the teams around you improve, and you take your 1st place/top 5 in the NHL team, and do almost nothing. Major fail.
I disagree about Drury, the Rangers have gone 139-64-23 with Chris as GM mainly because he realized the need to add grit to make the Rangers more competitive post season. I love JD but he and Gorton really sucked (224-205-55) Gorton's 2015 draft was a shutout, no pros found. 2016 produced Gettinger, 2017 - Medal chucker, Chytil and Morgan Barron who's still around, 2018 Krapshot and K'Andre. 4 years of drafting hunches instead of obvious choices killed Gorton and the Rangers, if he wasn't linked to JD Rangers fans would have run him out of town.
Well, JD‘s only draft here was fucking amazing, but the dumbass supported Gorton. That was a mistake.
That's the NHL playoffs. Two years ago, Florida was a favorite and won the Pres trophy, get knocked out in the first round. Last year they barely slip into the playoffs and go to the SCF. Boston was dominant in the regular season last year and lost in the first round. You need health, hot players, and good breaks to win a Cup, the toughest trophy to win. Whichever team comes out of the Atlantic bracket will have earned it. Florida, Boston, Toronto all battling is the toughest divisional mini bracket by far.
I think this is exactly the point Rangers94 was trying to make, you are all over the map depending on day and whatever mood you are in. No balls to pull season changing deal, fire this moron, banned from Rangers twitter for pointing out how clueless Drury is. Now Drury did a good job, he did great at the trade DL. It doesn't all add up. Your posts I quoted do add up and make sense, Drury does not have the balls to do what needs to be done, and the Rangers need to go for the Cup SMARTLY this summer and change this core of top players. There is a BIG difference between SMARTLY going for the Cup, and trading away every kid and every pick. You want to act as if going in to win a Cup means trade every pick and every kid...IT DOES NOT. You can SMARTLY trade some skill and finesse for grit, toughness, and size. You can SMARTLY trade some select kids and certain picks (including # 30) to improve the team. This is not going for it equals trading everything.
I think the point I’m trying to make is that you’re a complete loser if you look up old post. I judge a player and a GM by the current year. Sports is a year to year thing . You don’t get a year off without criticism. Find your balls, dude. If dumbass had a brain, he would realize that Drury had a great year. It wasn’t his fault the team didn’t beat Florida. Last year he looked like a GM who had no clue.
As I said before the problem with several dumb fucks in our fan base is they have one mentality, go for it now and throw away the entire future. It’s been that way for 20 fucking years on these chat boards because you guys are so hard up to see a championship you don’t realize that’s not the way you win one in today’s game.
I have no balls, Drury has no balls, a lot of people have no balls, I guess. Fire Drury as of less than 5 months ago, he has no balls to pull a season changing deal. Now we are all dumb fu*ks who want to go for it now and throw away the entire future. Despite the fact we literally write that isn't the case. You keep doing you though, don't let facts get in the way of your off the wall make no sense rants, you never have before, and I wouldn't expect this time to be any different. You keep living for next year, and next year, and next year, and next year, and... Any day now I expect all the wonderful prospects you talk about for years to come through. Yes, most never made the NHL and are long since gone, but you wait, they will be coming back to make a huge impact on the Rangers soon.
