I'd guess he might be done with sports journalism...apparently he's dealing with depression and probably the last thing he needs is to stay in the place that escalated it. I wish him well in his new chapter and hope it suits him better than being a Blazer shit stirrer.
Quick should have been dropped after gaslighting the Blazers with completely false Shams-Payton-Toradol rumors during Cronin's live press conference.
I’m not sure about how I feel calling someone opening up in regards to mental health an “attention whore”. In today’s day and age I think it’s increasingly important that we normalize accepting being open about that subject. After all, we are in the middle of what could be considered a mental healthcare crisis in this country. Say what you want about the writer, but don’t clown on the subject matter.
Thank you. Couldn't have said it better myself. I have major depressive disorder. You can make fun of me, until you make fun of my depression. Have some class. And no, making fun of the depression because they are "a public figure" doesn't give you a pass. Have some class. I have never liked quick, but I'll be damned if people mock him or make fun of his depression. That shit is real and it fucking sucks. /rant
I’m with you 100%. I love that my kids and everyone have shrugged off silent suffering. But in Quick’s case, let’s just say it’s rich. Quick has been vacillating between reporting and raising the collective blood pressure of both the players and the fans for years. I’ve seen him pan restaurants for a bad server, alienate Dame, CJ, Nurk, Marcus Camby, LA, etc etc etc. Sure some was deserved, but dude is a cantankerous muckraker. Overall, I think, it just takes a lot of irony swallowing to view him as a sympathetic character. Edit: And he’s not retiring. He’s just done covering the Blazers apparently.
Eh, I don't feel I have to swallow any sort of irony to sympathize. I didn't like him and (most) of his reporting, but he didn't hurt me or anyone else personally. Now, politicians on the other hand, THATS where it's hard to sympathize, mainly because their "irony" is by voting against things that they then would need help/sympathy on. And that's just consequences of action. I don't want to make this political, I was just giving an example.
Yeah, if you don't think the young dudes playing basketball don't take this stuff personally, then I don't know what to tell you. Dame called Quick a snake. EVERYTHING I've heard from within the organizations says Deandre Ayton has been personable and awesome. That's coming from people that watch him and know him. You don't think it bothered DA to have bullshit said about him. Did CJ not freak? I could go on and on and on. Players develop thick skin, but players are just young men walking the tightrope of a career, while guys like Quick potshot them if they rub him the wrong way. Then when he goes through something it's somehow sacred ground. THAT is exactly what irony is. wtf. (I am not saying pick on Quick. And again, he's not retiring, he's just taking his rain cloud elsewhere.)
I was just speaking for me. Which is why I used I statements. The "anyone else" is for anyone that I know and care about.
How much of a softball could it have been, given that it took you almost 2 years to think of a comeback? barfo
