The Blazers should ask the NBA to ban Ed Malloy from refereeing at the Moda Center because in many games over many years, Ed Malloy has shown a strong anti-Blazer bias. The inability to judge fairly and consistently was well displayed in the Nov 5, 2023 loss to the Grizzlies.

Throughout the game, Ed Malloy failed to call Grizzlie fouls that included hacking shooting arms, pushing, hitting, shoving the Blazer with the ball out of bounds, holding, and climbing over the back. The highlight bad call was the offsetting double foul when Salama held Toumani under the basket at the end of the 3rd Q, with a long review that deflated the Blazer 3rd Q momentum and formed an inflection point in the game. Salama initiated the lockup, and then flopped when Toumani pulled out of it, but was not called for the obvious flop. This is in contrast to calling a flopping foul on TIsse early in the game when he was knocked down by an aggressive illegal screen.

The Blazers management needs to establish a level playing field on the Moda home court for the Blazers to have a chance. Memphis is an overly physical, excessively fouling team that grabs opponents when the refs allow it, and keeps escalating until or unless the refs blow the whistle. In this game refed by Ed Malloy, the first Grizzlie foul of the 2nd half was only called 5 min into the 4th Q. The Grizzlies were getting away with enough excess rough play to allow them to win. This nonsense must stop. The Blazers deserve a fair shake at Moda!

After reading your post I decided to do a quick google on Ed Malloy. It isn't pretty and It's not just at the MODA.

Is Ed Malloy a good referee?

"Ed Malloy is atop the list of most missed calls in the final two minutes according to the NBA's “Two-Minute” report. His missed calls fall mostly fall into the category of “letting them play,” in crunch time. Although he is seen as a trusted veteran in officiating circles, he is the worst in the clutch."

They seem to trust him to "Let Them Play". That probably is something to note when he is the Ref. A good coach would know this and use it to his advantage. Veteran players would as well.

Ed Malloy, Joe Crawford and Mike Callahan all went to the same high school as Tim Donaghy. Sounds like they are still a tight group.

Scene - Halftime in the backstage of an NBA game.

    *Knocking on bathroom stall*
Ed Malloy: Hold on, I’m pooping.
Officiating team: Hurry up Ed, the second half is about to start. We know you’re in there placing bets. Come on man, they can’t start without us.
Ed Malloy: *Blows raspberries into arm* Come on guys, I’m really going in here.

Do you like your refs to make swish3s? I'm confused, this isn't on brand.

More retired players should enter the ref game. Guys like Iggy and JJ Redick would be great refs.

The Golden State Warriors vs Trail Blazer game on Dec 17, 2023 provides more documentation of why Ed Malloy should be banned from Trail Blazer games from now forward. The Blazers made a strong comeback after trailing and were making better shots and plays worthy of winning the game.

In the 4th Q, as in the first 3 Q, Ed Malloy incorrectly called key charging fouls (instead of blocking fouls, because the defender was moving and NOT set), called weak fouls against the Blazers, and failed to call substantial fouls against the Warriors) that changed the outcome of the game, which should have been won by the Blazers.

It is time for the FO to demand that Ed Malloy be banished from the Blazer home court.

Ed Malloy did it again! In the Apr 9, 2024 Pelicans game, Malloy and crew kept the Pels in it in the 1st half, awarding 11 FT to the Pels vs 0 for the Blazers! Even though the Blazers led by 3 at the half, that was with a 10 pt FT boost by the Refs.

At the end of the game, the count was 29 FT for the Pels vs 8 for the Blazers. Blazer fans deserve at least a fairly refed game on the home court. Ed Malloy hates the Blazers and consistently fails to call fouls on Blazer opponents. The Blazer FO should strictly block (refuse to accept) Malloy for all Blazer home games (and away games if possible) to allow a fair contest to occur. The 23 TO lost the game, but the interference is unacceptable!

This Malloy interference with Blazer games must end!

SHUT THE HELL UP WITH THIS SHIT! Did you watch the damn game? God I hate this FT comparison by people who didn’t watch the fucking game. Feel free to tell your favorite team to take it to the bucket like NOLA did and they will be rewarded.

Oh my bad, I forgot….the refs and league don’t want Portland to win. Nevermind. This fuckin place sometimes!

In the Pels loss, there were a number of failures to call fouls of Scoot, DA, Kris, Bari, Ryan, and Delano. Some of those were drives to the rim, but I agree that the Blazers did not do enough of that in the 2ne half.

In any event, Malloy and his crew were again biased against the Blazers.

HCP, do you really believe that in the 1st half, the Pels grabs of Blazer arms, punches, blocks, and shoves were less that fouls? 0 FT in the half?

    Dude, the season is over.

It was over 3 months ago.

It means nothing. lol. How can someone care about any of these games when we have nothing to play for?

The players have something to play for. But to get emotionally invested in a game that means nothing to us as fans, man I find that really strange.

How can someone who doesn't even like NBA basketball moderate and post daily on a basketball forum? I find that really strange.
