Even more reason to promote him like crazy. Tells you his ceiling is crazy higher. It’s weird to me the organization seems to chill with him
Shae IMO can be as good as he wants - he has all the talent in the world. Key is how bad he wants it and hard he wants to work. Minimum should be a several time all star IMO.
Key is also the Blazers not sitting on their hands and surrounding Shae with talent that will maximize his own. Look at how terrible Detroit has been at surrounding Cade, we’re not out of the woods yet.
We definitely need to add more talent, but Detroit's issue is mainly that Cade, as talented as he is, is an inefficient scorer without a consistent outside jump shot, and lacks elite athleticism. And he is their go-to scorer and primary ball-handler. They have failed to bring in anyone who can help balance that out. Shae doesn't really have that issue, as he can shoot, has extreme athleticism, and has some players around him who can also shoot. A most apt comparison would be us drafting Scoot and also not already having Shae and Ant on the team as shooters, not to mention the vets. Cade needs some shooters around him for that team to take a step forward finally.
What, 2 in a row is all it takes for him to be satisfied with himself? Old axiom: "Amateurs practice until they get it right; professionals practice until they can't get it wrong."
I know you're just kidding around but others really believe Shae doesn't have what it takes. It's just the fact that they're showing us that he's pushing himself to have more range. The guy is obviously pushing himself to be better. I think it's ridiculous that people are questioning his drive. He's obviously very driven just based on the obvious difference in where he was a year ago and where he is now.
I think you're misinterpreting what people have said when they've questioned his drive. Nobody doubts that he wants to get better. The "drive" that has yet to be consistently shown is the willingness to dominate, to impose his will on an opponent, to take over in late-game situations, to demand the ball in crunch time, to show everyone that he is the best player on the floor. That mindset, that "drive" to will a team to victory, is often what separates the greats from the very-goods.
I think that is fair to speculate about. I just don't think that Kobe was any more assertive on the court his sophomore season than Shae is... obviously off the court Kobe had a helluva lot more to say. We'll just have to wait and see if Shaedon's calm demeanor is an asset or if it hinders his greatness. The guy is going to be great but whether that will be on an all star level or an MVP level is yet to be seen.
I was watching the Minnesota's close out game last night and made me wonder if Shaedon can reach the developing arch of Anthony Edwards. I was impressed by the way Ant played. Shaedon is as explosive as Ant, can jump as high as Ant, has the potential to shoot as well as Ant. Shaedon is 2 in. taller and 2 year younger. He is lacking the experience and also the killer instinct currently. Can he ever develop into our Anthony Edwards? Can he do it by his 4th year? I would be ok if this playoff Ant is Shaedon's ceiling.
inconceivable! actually, I think he has the potential but he doesn’t yet seem to have that alpha mindset
There is currently no player with a alpha/ killer mindset on or team. I don't see Shaedon having it, he is just such a mellow fellow. I am hoping Scoot will one day have it as he get more experience. For Shaedon, I hope his skill will balance out his lack of alpha mindset and be a really good Beta. Someone like Middleton on the Bucks.
He has the potential. Due to him being hurt most of the season, I think people forget just how talented he is. But I do think the coaching and training staff need to push him to watch MJ and Kobe (and Brandon Roy, as well) more than Devin Booker and Bradley Beal. For some reason, that seems to be what he compares his game to and you even have Billups reinforcing that notion when, in reality, he would benefit from studying the #1 and #2 ever SGs consistently. When you look at Sharpe's frame (6'5", 7' wingspan) and his insane vertical (44-46"), that's the closest thing to MJ and slightly above Kobe in all aspects. His first step might not be as lightning quick as MJ's but it's similar to Kobe where his speed is more deceptive. His jumpshot mechanics are strong like those two. For reference, I was watching college MJ awhile back and there was a video showcasing how he continued to improve and add new aspects to his game. For Sophomore and Junior MJ, he was able to jump up and keep his arms in the air - sort of like Aldridge's high release jumper but with hangtime. Why isn't Sharpe being pushed to do that? Why isn't he being pushed to sidestep/turnaround and shoot like MJ and Kobe? The 'alpha mentality' will probably come once the Blazers actually commit to the rebuild and force Sharpe to play hero. Otherwise, I do have concern that the coaching/training staff aren't really exploiting his well around skillset and natural ability. They may be able to teach team ball and defense but teaching killer instinct requires teaching how to fully exploit a player's natural skills.
