Damon Stoudamire could be an interesting choice as coach.

I'd still take the over Cronin keeping Billups. We have the least agro GM in the NBA. Joe is happy and Chauncey is nice.

Just because Chris Mannix looked at a 3 day old headline about Blazer assistant coaches leaving, doesn't mean Billups is on the hot seat.

Didn't realize Billups would be entering the last year of his contract.

Usually we don't see coaches on an expiring contract, so I'd tend to think yes we will see a new coach in the next few months.

Hire a potential replacement vet coach as lead assistant and let him usher Chauncey out thee door around the trade deadline or next summer with his replacement on staff....even Ty Lue, Vogel, Ham, Stotts, McMillan, Jackson, D'Antoni..etc....I'd take a look at Juwan Howard as lead assistant as well.

Chauncey still has never had a roster built to win... and that's Cronin who has said that at the beginning of every season and after every trade deadline. I do not know if Chauncey would be a winning coach with a winning roster and I lean towards the idea that like Stotts he would have a neutral effect.

I do know that those of you who are saying that Chauncey hasn't been a good developmental coach obviously haven't watched Ant flourish and get better at the things he's good at under Chauncey, Jerami had the most efficient numbers of his career, I really like what I've seen out of Shaedon when he's been on the court, Scoot's last month was night and day better than his first this last season, JABARI, seriously almost everyone if not everyone has performed well for Chauncey. Then you have guys who left the team talking about how great Chauncey is (talking about running through walls for him and shit) and that is more than half of the battle.

If this reporting is all true it's bullshit unless we have someone who is a huge upgrade and can also grow with this young roster to replace Chauncey. SMH. The dude still calling the shots has been here as either the top guy or second in command for over a decade. I'm not calling for Joe's job but fuckin' a this guy is like a really nice cockroach. How he survives in this environment producing the shit he's produced is beyond me.

Lol. Good one. Far worse offensively and just as bad defensively with the same roster.

I think the "firey" coaches don't work as well with the younger generation.

I guess all the Knicks players must be old? (And isn't it the GMs that are firey? Especially around this time of year.)

The obvious place would be Detroit, but (a) I'm not sure Jody would like Monty's salary, and (b) I don't think Monty gets on with our best player.

I assume that's why Chauncey's safe, why Walker's a rotation player, and why we'll draft Cody Williams.

Locked on Blazers host has a good take on things and will try to sum it up fast.

He points out that at the end of season presser Billups said he wanted to win and Cronin said this team was still rebuilding and winning was not likely in the near future ( 2 to 3 yrs ish my guess ) . He also thinks the Blazers would not FIRE billups cause then they would have to pay him so might be hoping he walks away meaning they might only have to pay a percentage of the deal. The Blazers are prolly moving on from Billups either this year or next and since they are not winning the Blazers do not care if Billups is on the bench or not. ---- this for most part sums it up and it makes sense but IF this is the plan from the front office and Cronin then this team is in deep shit and I am worried. --- the key word is IF this is true but something about it makes sense.

So it would seem another year of tanking, at least, could be likely? Fuck me.

I was thinking it's entirely possible that after the Nets gave our assistant a lead assistant job that after 3 years of tanking it's entireely possible that Brooks wanted his hat in the mix for head coaching vacancies and Rodney possibly wants to win or go back to being a head coach in the college game. These guys have ambitions and Chauncey has an anemic record over 3 years. Its also possible that Chauncey may have wanted to plug the gaps in his system given how poor our offense has been since he's been head coach

I am interested in the bolded part. I mean we are currently in deep shit, but I am wondering which alternative plan would you prefer instead. Trying to win next year seems to be the only other option while keeping all our vets.
