We should add another lottery pick

I have posted this in other threads, but I love the idea of adding another lottery pick in a draft that I think people are undervaluing.

    Couple different scenarios:

I'd love to move up and grab Risacher. I think he could be plugged directly into the starting lineup as a 3&D small forward or power forward. We just don't know if he's going to be picked 1, 2, or 3. He could go anywhere, so obviously moving up to grab him would depend on what happens at the top.

I'd either like to pick up another pick and then package to move up, or just pick up another pick because I think there are intriguing guys in the later lottery that I'd love to take a flyer on.

Picks 3/4/5/6 don't make sense unless there's someone specific we really want. Maybe it's Castle or Holland. I don't think we'd want Topic/Sheppard/Dillingham. Moving up for any of those picks don't make sense unless Risacher falls or if we really want Castle.

I would love to grab one of the picks after ours. 9/10/11. I really like the idea of getting Knecht. I think he'd be amazing to pair with Scoot. I just don't want to use 7 on him. If we could end up with some combination of:

    7 - Castle/Holland/Buzelis/Williams

    9/10/11 - Knecht

    14 - Ware/Missi

That would be a great infusion of young talent.

Referencing an idea in the trade thread, Grant/14 for #5 from the Pistons.

I wonder if Memphis would do Kennard/#9 for RWIII. They supposedly wanted him last year before he got hurt. If he's healthy, he's an immediate impact player for them. It would be a gamble for sure.

Or Brogdon to the Bulls for Ball/#11.

Rumor is that Utah wants to move #10 but I wouldn't want to try to deal with Danny Ainge. Not worth the trouble.

There's no chance RWIII returns 9. Maybe with 14 attached

So essentially RW3 and Ware (or Missi or Edey) for #9? That is not too bad for Memphis if Center is their priority. They get a Vet for one year and a prospect for the future.

I agree with you on trading up to pick Risacher. However, I believe HCP overrates the first round.

The ONLY player worth tying up first round cap space, is Risacher.

Get out of the first round. I have no problem with taking a flyer on a basket full of second rounders. But no first rounders other than Risacher.

if Ayton becomes a rent-a-Blazer, how are Blazer fans supposed to react?

    • much needed versatile Center
    • still young, fits the rebuild timeline
    • DA enjoys being a Blazer
    • buckets in bunches
    • excellent rebounding
    • a player that refused to tank

when i hear local media using trade Ayton as Cronin's backup plan, i cringe a little bit. That move would set this rebuild back even further.

Keep in mind that if the Blazers acquire more picks, they have to make roster room.

The Blazers currently have 4 draft picks, and only 1 roster spot open (Moses Brown URF).

The only non-guaranteed contracts are: Banton, Walker, and Camara. Do the Blazes not pick up the option on one or more of these players to make room for a rookie?

Do the Blazers really need to go younger than they already are?

Both second rounders can be signed to 2-way contracts and play for the Remix.

Ayton seems like the type of center we would hope to land in a trade or in the draft. I’m down with keeping him and see what happens with more Scoot and Sharpe in his life.

I love the idea of waiting past the draft, just a few days, when future picks can be traded, vs dumping any more assets into this year's draft.

Just for fun, here's a list of the 'developmental players' on the team already:

    1. Lottery pick 1, 19 or 20
    2. Lottery pick 2, 19 or 20.
    3. Rupert, 20
    4. Scoot, 20
    5. Sharpe, 21
    6. Walker, 22
    7. Murray, 24
    8. Camara, 24

Plus likely another 2way guy in the mix. That's not counting Banton or Ayton who—let's face it—are still figuring out what they are.

That's 8 roster spots dedicated to 'let's see how it goes' type guys.

that's a lot! And they usually carry 14 players, so that's only 6 additional spots for vets.

    No more 2024 picks, please.

Walker and Camara need to show that they can score. Murray hasn't even shown that he's an NBA player. Rupert is still a major project. We need to pick up more guys that project out to actual rotation players.

We have two lottery picks and two 2nd round picks. We're probably trading other players, possibly Ant, so we'll be bringing back young talent that way too.

Which is hilarious because apparently Brogdon isn’t worth a guy who hasn’t been healthy in 2 years and a “lottery pick” that most experts say would be around 10 picks later in any other draft, so essentially the 21st pick last year.

I was REALLY hoping that he'd go unnoticed & we could pick him up with one of the seconds.
He's gotten enough publicity recently, I think it would require a late 1st now.
