you're right....they sure wouldn't be hesitant about renouncing the rights to Hayward. It's probably too much to ask for a future 1st, not with Timelord's knees. if all the chaff about the Blazers being interested in Clingan is based in reality, the Blazers would kind of need to dump Timelord's salary
The solution is a 3-way here. Orlando: WCJ + '26 ORL + '25 DEN => Simons + Reath OKC: '25 Utah + Joe => WCJ Portland: Simons + Reath => Joe + '25 Utah + '25 Den + '26 Orl
even if Portland waives Banton (likely?), they will be 4-5M OVER the tax line after adding #7 & #14; and they'd be at the 15 player maximum roster. They wouldn't have the room for either of their 2nd round picks dumping Timelord solves 75% of those issues
Agreed that the Blazers do have a tax issue and will need to get the roster down to 15 in October. I still don't see how rumored interest in Clingan would be related to those. They all seem like unrelated items to me. Sure dumping Timelord would help, however with his injury it would seem the Blazers may have to give up an asset to do this which would make it less likely. I expect it's much more likely an Ant, Brogdon, or Grant trade at the draft or free agency will be what the Blazers do to duck the tax. Roster limit seems way overblown IMO - Jabari and other scrubs could be cut as Watford was last year. But we don't even know that is needed until all the other moves are done.
Brogdon and ? for LaVine? Maybe somehow we get our pick back too? I'd have some interest in acquiring him if we could get rid of our bad contracts like Thybulle, hope to improve his value, and flip him at the deadline or next summer. He probably makes too much to be worth that risk though. There's a chance his value keeps declining every season.
I would think Tobias Harris wants to move on? He's been totally discarded in Philly with no talk of retaining him. Maybe bring him to the Blazers with a sign and trade using a trade exception if a Jerami Grant to Detroit trade happens. Or give him the full MLE (about $12 million) if we cut enough salary somehow. Seems like a vet that could help our young roster and also be flipped at a later date when a contender has an injury.
Trade Simons to Orlando for Black Issac and a 2025 Denver pick Trade Grant for Tobias Harris and #5 Trade Brogdon, Timelord, Thybulle to Chicago for Zach LaVine, our pick back and a 2027 first Blazers depth chart and picks; Scoot Sharpe Black LaVine Rupert Murray Harris Isaac Camara Ayton Reath Picks 2024 #5 #7 #14 2025 Own Denver 2026 Own 2027 Own Chicago 2028 Own MIL swap 2029 Own BOS MIL 2030 Own MIL swap 2031 Own LaVine Harris Ayton Issac would be shopped in trades. Likely one of them plays great and improves value so we get FRP(s), another doesn't and we just eat the contract.
Harris is a better player than Grant. I expect him to be able to find a contract around that $30M range. If Philly would consider a S&T for Grant straight across -> Id be game
All 3 of these trades are wildly optimistic. Orlando isn't going to be giving up Issac. Harris is better than Grant. No way we get a pick in that trade (not even considering the #5). Chicago will not give up 2 picks to dump Zach
a long time Blazer poster at RealGM has said he heard (from a source I guess), that Portland was talking a 3 team deal with Orlando and Washington. The bare bones of which are: * Blazers send out Ant, Jabari Walker, and both 2nd's. Blazers get back Den Avdija and a 1st, unsaid what pick it is * Orlando send out Cole Anthony and a 1st; get back Ant * Washington sends out Avdija; gets back Walker, Anthony and? there would have to be more involved obviously. I'd think Washington would probably want more than stated. Maybe getting #18+#34+#40 would be enough; maybe not. Orlando is not paying enough unless they are sending out a future 1st to Portland. the bones of Ant for Avdija + a 1st looks like a Blazer win to me. I'm just not sure it's too homerific for Portland. At least it might indicate that Cronin is willing to move Ant. The poster has been a member of RealGM for 23 years and does not have a record of any wild claims
HELL F' ing NO on Zach in Portland Where the hell would he fit and you think you hate Ant the fans would be like that on Zach in a month ( assuming he stayed healthy ) so just say no to Zach
Issac was more of a salary dump... yes put anything in that place or cap room instead the key is Black and a pick for Simons which seems totally reasonable. The Grant trade is two separate deals - Detroit would give us #5 and absorb Grant salary in cap space. It was discussed here previously as some Pistons fans like the deal. The second half of the trade is acquiring Harris with the trade exception and having a 2nd round pick go to Philly for their troubles. Thats seems reasonable if they don't want to sign Harris themselves or they want to use that cap space on something else - this just gives them a free 2nd round pick instead of renouncing Harris. Now the $ amount of the contract perhaps you are correct and needs to be increased to whatever Harris market value is. He probably would prefer a different destination so ultimately that half of the trade may not be feasible. Chicago is rumored to want to get out of Zach contract purely as a salary dump. Instead they get some players to use in that scenario. Brogdon is arguably a better player at this time than Zach, and much more reasonable salary. The Blazer pick they own isn't much value to them and is very likely only worth a 2nd round pick. It probably has more value to us just clearing up the 2028 Milwaukee swap. Something like this trade would only make sense from Chicago end if they have no other decent options to get off of Lavine overpaid contract. This is actually the deal with the greatest risk from PDX end as LaVine is owed nearly $50 million in 3 years so there is a ton of risk.
