Since it seems we will keep Scoot long term, doesn't it seem like these stats are the best argument to get rid of Simons?

I don't know, Simons shows well with some of the players, but doesn't seem to match as well with the few other players like Grant/Brogdon/Scoot that handle the ball in a set offense. But I'd advise a little caution in jumping to conclusions about the meaning of those lineup combos

Don't really see the point of both 12 and 14 in this weak draft. I'd rather have a future Orlando protected pick or Denver pick or such.

Remember the picks are all about 10 spots worse than a typical draft so it's like saying the Blazers would have picks 17, 22 and 24.

Yeah I suggested this before - Blazers eat Steven Adams deal and Dillion Brooks. Not sure Brooks would be happy in Portland and he's owed a lot so has some Blazers risk. Makes sense if we really like a player at #3.

Certainly hope the Blazers wouldn't end up with both duplicate limited bench players in Clingan and Edey that would be nuts.

Why do you think it seem like we will keep Scoot long term?

    That can work, but I’d
Houston or Washington are better fits for Ayton. And I’d prefer taking Risacher at 2nd pick and at 7, take Holland and at 14, Edey.

But I’m satisfied with Ayton to Houston, we take Clinghan at 3, Holland at 7 and Edey at 14. And if 14th can’t secure Edey, then trade up using Thybulle + 14 to pick 9, 10, 11 or 12

Nuts? Who you call’s nuts! We just traded away Ayton (in theory) and taking Clinghan and Edey gets you College’s top two centers to battle it out - as Blazers. And if we successfully obtain a wing (Holland) at 7, we have only to hunt for our future PF and still have Ant, Grant, Williams and Brogdan to make that happen (2025 draft?)

Ant is not a good enough defender for me to want to keep him around. As soon as we can trade him for a starting level better defender at another position we should do it.

I don't think anyone would argue with that, nor has anyone.

well, then trade Grant/Ayton + 14 to Detroit for 5. Then trade Brogdon + 12 to Memphis for 9 (or maybe get Grant+Brogdon+12+14 cooking in a small shot at joining Houston's #3 BBQ). Now it's 5+7+9. That's looking better and creates some very interesting options

or trade 12/14 to some teams looking to move up in this draft (and some are) for future pick(s)

or let OKC keep 12, Portland keeps 18, and OKC pays Portland out of their treasure chest of future 1st's and 2nds. Or let Orlando keep Black and not only do they send out 18, they send out the more favorable of the 2025 Orlando/Denver 1st's and a couple of 2nd's

Yep. Just clarifying since some people seem to think that anybody who wants to trade Ant hates him and wants to trade him for scraps.

I think Ayton to Atlanta actually makes more sense. Doubtful Houston wants to invest that much money in their center position with Sengun already there.

I just don’t want to overpay to get the Atlanta pick. Ayton and a future pick perhaps - and not sure who we have to take back in trade for salary cap purposes. I like Ayton, but if a rebuild is going to take more than three years, let’s go with youth. I still like the idea of picking Clingan, Edey and Holland to add to the rebuilding plan. Like Jokic with Nirkic in Denver, we can wait and see who stays and who is traded later, if necessary. Next piece will be PF.

I'm would not include any future picks for one this year.

    Ok….let’s go with a win-now - keep Ant approach to start 2024

    Here goes:

New Orleans receives Grant and Thybulle
sending Ingram to the Blazers and pick 21 to Portland and their 2026 unprotected 1st to Utah via Blazers. Pels also receive Utah’s #10 selection in the upcoming draft.

Portland receives Markenen from Utah and Portland receives Ingram from Pels.

Portland packages 14 and 21 to move up to 9 (Memphis) selects Edey as backup C

    Utah receives Portland’s #7 pick, two of Portland’s 2029 unprotected #1 picks via Boston and via Bucks and they also receive the 2026 unprotected 1st via New Orleans as per our trading Grant & Thybulle to Pels; summary: Utah receives 3 unprotected number 1 picks plus our 2024 #7 pick. An Ainge-type haul. Sends 10th pick to the Pels and Markenen to the Blazers;

    Portland roster looks like:

    Ayton / Edey / Reath / Williams
    Markenen / Walker
    Ingram / Sharpe / Camara / Murray
    Ant / Banton / Rupert
    Scoot / Brogdan

now, we can always trade Ant for 2025 draft capital making room for Sharpe to start at SG

and if we don’t make the playoffs, we can move Brogdan and Williams

but this is a playoff-bound team and if Ayton and Markenen can play together, we can stand up against Denver and Minnesota and even push Wemby around. And Brogdan continues to mentor our young backcourt.

So the Pelicans are giving up Ingram, pick 21 in this draft and an unprotected pick FRP in 2026 for Jerami and Matisse??? I don't think that comes close to happening.

has anyone ever watched the Blazers?? Chauncey would put Ingram at small ball Center with 4 guards. The opponents would destroy the Blazers around the glass. Then Billups would tell everyone he got guys good looks, they just couldn't get them to drop.

    Trade update!
Utah to give their #10 pick to the Pels. They are getting our #7 plus three future unprotected #1 picks. Now New Orleans is sending out Ingram and #21, receiving Grant, Thybulle and #10 pick.
