Who do you think Portland should take? Given the first 13 picks, including Salaun at #7, who should Portland take?. Tomorrow we'll see how the actual GMs do on draft night. Atlanta: Alex Sarr, France Washington: Zacharie Risacher, France Houston: Reed Sheppard, Kentucky San Antonio: Stephon Castle, UConn Detroit: Matas Buzelis, G-League Charlotte: Donovan Clingan, UConn Portland: Tidjan Salaun, France San Antonio: Nikola Topic, Serbia Memphis: Dalton Knecht, Tennessee Utah: Cody Williams, Colorado Chicago: Ron Holland, G-League Oklahoma City: Zach Edey, Purdue Sacramento: Kel'el Ware, Indiana Portland
Carter if he's still on the board. He plays scrappy ball. Billups would love his scrap. Yes, he's another guard, but this team's backcourt got hit by the injury bug last year, and Billups ran low on scrappy play
Since the group went with the big swing at 7 and took Salaun, I'm gonna go with the high floor guy.... I chose TDS.
If the lottery actually plays out this way, I will be exceedingly conflicted on who I want Portland to take. The "best players available" of those listed above are arguably all guards--Dillingham, Carter, McCain, Walter. Da Silva feels like he very well might be Kris Murray redux. George and Furphy seem like they could be great fits with Scoot/Sharpe, but seem like low-ceiling options. Missi is probably the fifth-best center in this draft--kind of a disappointing result at 14 My heart says go with the athletic rim-running big, but my head says that a combo-guard with that "dawg" to back up Scoot and Sharpe would make a lot of sense. Voting Missi, with Carter as a close second.
It all depends on what Cronin is gonna do. If Simons/Brogdon are on their way out, Carter could be amazing as a backup point guard.
If we move guards then Carter is the smart pick but otherwise my gut says Holmes. Just like the way he plays and I would rather have another bigger guy.
I haven't voted yet because... gosh, I dunno. I couldn't decide and am not sure even as I type this. I want upside, which usually means youth. I want size. I want skill. I want a fit. Of course, at #14 in this draft I can't get everything, but I'll go with youth/updside first, and vote for Carlton "Bub" Carrington. He's a half-inch shorter than Shaedon (6'3.75" without shoes, so good size for a 1 and even not TOO short for a 2) and he reportedly has a good understanding of the game... and he doesn't turn 19 until next month. Not a great fit, of course, but he could be a fourth guard if/when Portland moves Ant or Brogdon.
Ditto, basically every word. In reality, I would expect us to move up to get the guy we really want, but if it played out like this, I think it has to be Carter or Bub. Not perfect immediate fits but we're going to be bad next year no matter what, so take the talent, figure out the fits later.
Yeah, this is tough because we selected Salaun at 7 (when I voted for Williams) So in this scenario I still want a wing so I would go with George. If we had picked Cody or Holland then my vote would be different. But as mentioned above, it depends on whether we trade Ant. Topic was already picked at #8 so maybe McCane
I went with Missi because I’d like Portland to have a high upside big that just needs age. With Ware and Edey gone, Missi is next up. There are a couple guards worthy of the pick but trying to develop two young guards already on the roster is enough. Portland needs a journeyman guard or two behind Scoot/Shae. Not interested in Da Silva because Portland is getting a stud 4 in next years draft!
I don't know what your definition of "slips" is but find me a mock draft from a reputable website that has Edey off the board at 14??? There isn't one. A lot of good mocks have the Heat taking him at 15 which makes sense because of how he would juxtapose with Bam but nobody has him earlier than that... nobody that I know of. If you can find a mock that has him going before 14 please let me know because I'd like to see the way they have the rest of the draft shaking out.
