Agreed that saving luxury tax was a component of getting less assets in this trade. That's why matching Thybulle was such a dumb move. If we had let him walk we wouldn't have been pressured to do this deal and lose assets.
You have to give up something to get back a good player. I don’t see this deal as a cost cutting move at all. Avdija is 23 and has an amazing contract.
If he only contributes, this trade's a loss. He has high potential and has been trending positively but still has things to prove and development to make.
if he remains what he is right now it’s a bad trade. I guess they are banking on continued improvement and a potential markennan esque breakout as he gets closer to his prime.
What do you not like about him now? He's a good all-around player and a really good contract, and his age fits in with our core. This trade was home run. Unless he has some kind of terrible regression, this was home run.
Agreed, but with the caveat that it's in hindsight. When the Thybulle match was made, there wasn't a reason to believe a young, inexpensive player like Advija would be available (albeit costly in compensation), nor that Camara would so quickly (and, at all, actually) be able to give you a lot of what Thybulle did. But, yes, with the way things played out, matching Thybulle was a moderate misplay.
im not sure what I’m watching…..what’s a 2 way player. Haven’t seen one in so long I’ve forgotten what one looks like.
Well, I am pretty confident that regardless the trade, the pick, the swap, or the multiteam deal.......this forum will be filled with party balloons, fans jumping off bridges, G.M. hate/love, and nearly every angle of opinion possible. It's sort of like fan Groundhogs day. I have no idea how it will turn out. I liked Brogdon, because he was a smart, savvy vet who knew how to play late in games. But, he certainly didn't fit the teams future timeline. Also, it is really hard to predict a players contributions when they are young, and joining a new group of people. Hope he falls in love with Portland and fits the culture.
I think Banton's first and second instinct is to facilitate for himself, and, unless you are Damian Lillard, for a PG, that's not what I'm looking for. I like Banton as a secondary or tertiary ballhandler who can give our PG a rest from bringing it up the floor every single possession, but I want an actual PG as Scoot's sub.
He did like to shoot, but I think during tanking time, Chauncy let them do whatever they wanted... A philosophy I don't like, but they didn't seem to be playing with any structure.
I'd say not to let the perfect deny you the good. Shead's tough and a winner. I think for 12-15 minutes a game the good he brings you will make up for the shaky shot. There are no perfect players playing backup PG in the NBA, so find someone that gets your team into its offense, gets you good shots, and plays solid defense at the other end. That's what I'm looking for primarily and Shead should do all of those.
