Based on these numbers, we should sign that Moses Brown guy, he seems like a stud.

Wow, that shuttle run by our new guy seems like it might be historically bad. That being said he just might not have trained that drill. I doubt his reaction time is really that bad (fingers crossed).

Actually looking at those numbers I don't feel as bad, yeah Clingan was below average but Gobert/Naz Reid/etc players have many similar figures.

I have heard comments that some of these tests are kind of pointless as certain players train very hard for them and do get much improved numbers - but that doesn't translate to reactions during an NBA game.

I posted those numbers, because I had all my friends and everyone else telling me Clingan was a "super athletic, far superior version of Przybilla".

    Bullshit.
The numbers support my eye test.

I'm not saying he won't pan out, or won't be good, but calling him "super athletic for a Center" is BS.
Him becoming half of Gobert would be amazing.

Most surprising number was Steve Adams - he had a bench press of 185lbs 16 times.

Back when he was a rookie I would've thought he'd get at least 40 reps

I’ve poured over a lot of Clingan tape tonight.

His screen setting is overrated. His shot blocking ability is real. Great knack at help side blocking especially. Around 90% of his buckets were dump down or garbage buckets (put backs) that you won’t get away with as much in the NBA.

I really hope I’m wrong. But a wing like Cody Williams would’ve benefited us a lot more.

To be sure, I am agreeing with you. But Portland had the deal for Advija done, making Williams unnecessary. I wanted the guy that ate Clingan's lunch in the title game. But not at 7, at 14. Portland could have traded 7 for 9, drafted Buzellis to play the 4 and drafted Edey or Ware at 14. The two players I did not want were Clingan and Knecht. I hope I am wrong about Clingan. What's done is done. But Edey went 9 proving an actual NBA team has the same faith in Edey that I have. And he dominated Clingan. Then Knecht falls to 17. Sure glad Portland had the foresight to pass on him at 7. But we are Portland fans. The picks are in.

Clingan has nice court vision and can make some advanced passes.

But I agree, I don't see a high impact player. I think he has poor hands & tends to bobble a lot of rebounds and passes

There's already a thread about that, with an insulting thread title for our best player.

Yeah I don't see why he's thought so highly of. Seems like a serviceable big but a bit of a stiff. Just not a full time position either.

But there's a lot of draft analyst that have him top3 on their boards, so there must be a reason. That gives me some comfort.

I'd have been ok with Cody Williams, but I think he gets drafted outside the lottery in a typical draft so not a huge deal. There's nobody on the board that looks like a great prospect.

Curious if we are shopping him, Pels are desperate for a center.

He legit may be our best player. That's a function of how shitty our roster is though. Stick him on the 2000 Blazers and he's 6th.

    What happens with Clingan?

Ayton was number 1 overall in a much better draft and relatively young still.

Is it possible that someday he develops a pure little mid range jumper like his predecessor, Deandre Ayton?

Joe, other talent evaluators and Danny Hurley all say that his hands, his coordination and even the way he shoots it right now (which has to be altered) would make all of them believe that he could end up with a decent shot. I don't know if they mean a jumper or just a set shot with who knows how much range.

    I doubt it

    college FT%:

    Ayton 73.3% (NBA 76.1%)
    Poeltl 60.5% (NBA 53.8%)
    Cilngan 55.8%
    Przybilla 52.1% (NBA 55.7%)

FT conversion rate isn't always predictive for mid-range shooting, but it is most of the time

    I strongly agree.

Didn’t matter who we picked. The masses on here would claim he’s the next best thing.
