Yeah I’m $200 a month into my Television at this point. I’ll get the Blazers and I have a couple kids not to mention my wife so I’m good but I totally understand this statement. Some simply cannot afford that in this economy.
Beginning with 25-26 season, NBA will air nationally televised games seven days a week once the NFL season ends. Weekly Schedule: Monday: Peacock Tuesday: NBC Wednesday: ESPN Thursday: Amazon Friday: ESPN/Amazon Saturday: ESPN/Amazon Sunday: NBC/ESPN So I already have Prime (though I've considered getting rid of it). I'll get an antenna for NBC. That covers 5 days. So I just have to figure out the cheapest way to get ESPN and Peacock. And if I get peacock I won't necessarily need the antenna, or will I? Do we have any idea what channel the Blazers will be on? And will those games be blacked out if they're on national TV? Will I be able to buy a Blazers streaming channel that won't be blacked out?
Considering he pockets a ton of cash himself from a huge contract of a subscription TV service this is beyond hypocritical.
Some can't afford the opera so they don't go. I don't understand the difference - it's entertainment. Nobody needs to watch the NBA to live. If you want to view it you can pay for it, if not do something else or go work or something.
The NBA hasn't been on 'regular' television for a long time. It's been on the traditional cable stations (ESPN/TNT/etc). I would much rather pay for streaming options direct to the provider (ie- LeaguePass) than be forced to subscribe to Dish/DirectTV that provides content that I don't want or care about.
Yeah I have Xfinity/Comcast. Works for me but many don't like that option and want to stream individual games. $200 a month is $2400 a year. There are things that could be better spent on.
Yeah - I wouldn't pay $2,400 per year. I pay $160 for a full season of LeaugePass. More than meets my needs. Then during the playoffs, I sign up for SlingTV for 3 months. It's an extra $120. Less than $300 for a full season.
You have to have some kind of internet connection? If you are using your phone then there is that I guess? Internet is part of my package. I do have the highest available speed and unlimited data so that costs a bit. The kids watch a bunch of kids videos. The wife likes You tube. She watches those street people talk to the camera all the time. I can't watch more than about 10 mins but that's great stuff to her?
Internet is separate. We work from home, so it falls under a 'basic utility' in our budget instead of entertainment. But $65/month for 1G. We stream everything, even on via a big-screen projector.
Hopefully this means the Blazers can have some news about the games for this upcoming season being broadcast or streamed.
I don't see why this would, maybe eventually the Blazers will get 5-10 national games since every team will probably have more national games with 3 TV partners. But this new NBA TV deal takes effect in 2025-26, not next season.
They would be crazy not to pay these guys and whoever the producers were whatever it takes. Set them up exactly how they were and do everything the exact same. Change nothing that doesn't absolutely have to be changed.
TNT may try to take legal action against the NBA, but I don't think they'll win. The NBA will use the fact that TNT isn't available on nearly as many streaming options as it used to be. For example Fubo TV dropped TNT and all the other Warner channels a few months ago. The NBA will say that TNT can't provide the amount of viewers that it used to, and Amazon Prime can.
