Not sure if that was a serious response, but it would only make sense if foreign women weren't getting NCAA scholarships. We're the development system for a lot of non-US medal winners. The real answer is likely how much additional resources those countries put into men's vs women's sports. If they have, say, an 80/20 split of resources and we have a 70/30 or 60/40 split (all are probably naively equitable), our women will be relatively better supported and bring home a bigger percentage of the US medal haul.

That's mostly independent of the collegiate system, because it is supporting domestic and foreign athletes equally across genders. Barring the messy numbers game of football, of course, which is the big thorn in the heel of Title IX.

"The law’s far-reaching impact could be seen at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, where American women dominated sports from gymnastics to basketball to swimming. That year saw the largest contingent of U.S. female Olympians in history, with a total of 292 women and 263 men. Back in 1972, only 90 women had joined the U.S. Olympic team of 428 athletes."
Your reasoning is actually the reason the US has lost its lead in swimming. The new great French swimmer trained at an American college with the coach who trained Michael Phelps.
Because of title 9, many colleges also have chosen to cut men's sports that don't draw crowds, hence the decline of men's gymnastics.

Analyses like that are misleading, because they focus on just one component. What was the increase in women's sports offered during that time, and what was the increase in women's participation for other countries?

It's also cherry picking a very successful showing and not looking at things like how the US women fared before and after pros were allowed in '92.

That's exactly what I said (re-read the football comment)...

This does not make up for Euro 2024, but it's nice that Spain aren't good at EVERYTHING

Professor would have been fun to see in the 3 vs 3 street ball tournament for the Olympics.

Meanwhile Australia leaps up to second in Golds. How can a nation surrounded with shark-infested-water be so good at swimming?
