I know there are some great bbq joints out there and feel free to give them props here but i am specifically looming to see what people prefer more. Famous Daves or Busters?
I haven't been to Busters in years and thought it was decent before I moved to Texas, now it's just kind of average in my mind, HOWEVER, this is more about Famous Dave's and how trash that place is. I'm sorry but it's not BBQ, at best it's stuff that's baked in the oven and tastes like they toss a little liquid smoke on it and then slather it in their bbq sauce. This might be harsh but I wouldn't step foot in Famous Dave's. As for other BBQ places in Portland, Reverands was pretty good, didn't get the hype over Podnah's, and Goldie's over in Vancouver was my favorite (though personal bias since owners are long time family friends) but they closed down after issues with the neighbors and landlord.
Both arent good BBQ. I agree with the above post, Goldee's was solid. Could the issues with the neighbors and landlord be because they almost set the building on fire numerous times? just sayin' Smokin' Oak & Daddy D's is good.
Never eat at a Daves, yet. Busters was ok. Tried a lot of bbq joints. Best ever anywhere was in Portland about 30 years ago. Tennesse Reds, near SE Grant and 11th. He even had a Tennesse flag on the wall. The original owner, that sold out after a couple of years, was out of this world good. It was not as good under the new owners. And the Tennesse flag was gone. So were most of the customers. The original owners bbq was perfection. And his sauces and side dishes were mouth watering good. I still have dreams about his bbq. Anyone know where he is now?
I'd suggest looking up the scores from the health department before eating at either of those BBQ restaurants.
I have a Buster’s on my route. I occasionally stop in for some beef and barley soup. Their bbq isn’t good at all. So I never get it. That place is usually crammed with morbidly obese people on their scooters. Often times when I’ve stopped in there to use the restroom there’s poop on the toilet seat. Also, for some reason Gypsy’s love going there. The smell is appealing though from outside the joint. I recommend Matt’s BBQ or Podnah’s
Busters is good for people who don't know what good BBQ is. Not saying it's hot garbage, but it's definitely nothing to get excited about. Of the 3 locations, I'd say the Gladstone one is the weirdest.
hahaha ... that I'm not sure about but I know one of the big complaints was the smoke that would go wafting through the neighborhood and the rent was being raised quite a bit. Funny thing on the smoke, Austin that is known for BBQ has a ton of places on the east side of the city and a lot of neighbors there are trying to get rid of the BBQ places citing the smell of the smoke. Personally it would just make me even more hungry! Looks like Matts is the choice of many in Portland, probably need to give Podnahs another try (had it on Fathers Day a couple years ago) and it was very underwhelming. As I spend more and more time around a smoker in my backyard, going and spending the crazy amounts of $$$ on it from some one else has become a lot less appealing.
Ok. I did. Buster's scored a 90 in Multnomah County. They actually scored 100 at the Clackamas County location.
This is like asking if Olive Garden is the best Italian. What is going on? I got 3 or 4 fantastic spots to recommend , but you'd have to actually drive into civilization to enjoy.
Damn. So for clarity. Im in Canby and need to get the food back. Famous Daves and Busters are both somewhat close. Most of the places mentioned are too far to pick up and treck back to my neck of the woods. No any bad ass bbqs in my redneck villa?
