Maybe? But if Stanford and Cal plus maybe adding one of the independent schools it could garner some strength? Also what happens if the ACC continues to struggle?
Love this. Just the beginning of rebuilding the Pac 12. Hopefully they rebrand the name and get rid of the "12" and don't have any # moving forward. Hopefully schools like Cal, Stanford, UCLA, UNLV also join to add more regions/media markets for TV viewers. I hope they keep it with schools on the west coast/mid west. Makes it much more financially manageable for travel, especially with the other sports (non football).
It's pretty clear you can't get into the new PAC12 if you don't have "state" in your name. Portland State up next!
the last TV offer with those teams in the pac-12 was s***. Adding those teams back is not going to give the pac-12 a big TV offer. Mountain West gets 6 million per team per year. The new offer is rumored to be around 12 to $15 million per year per team. That's great if you're a mountain West team, That's not going to get the old pac-12 gang back
Develop the Pac, merge with the Big East, form the BIGGIE-PAC conference, appoint Jay-Z and Dr Dre commissioners, and play up the east/west beef.
No I honestly don't think you get the "Old PAC12" back together. You do get a decent conference that the Beavers and Cougars can play in and stay in possible bowl games at times. I don't think anyone is dreaming of much more than that?
But it's a little bit of a different landscape now. The word is that ESPN is pushing for the Pac 12 to rebuild because they want more content/games and they are very concerned with losing more ground in the football world to the likes of Prime Video, AppleTV, etc. So that leads me to believe the Pac 12 could get a pretty solid TV agreement when this all shakes out. -fingers crossed-
Yeah I think there is room for some expansion and reorganizing. Could make a decent conference that will hold some interest.
PCC announces that they're changing their name so that they can join the new PAC12! Portland Community College.... State!
First, I love OSU. Always been a fan. Beavers were my team when I was a kid. I'm not a hater. But I just don't get why OSU wants to be the self appointed savior of the Pac 12, 2, 6, maybe 8? You guys hanging your hat on after one year ESPN and Fox are now going to back up the truck and start unloading cash is crazy. The Big 12 gave you guys the biggest hint on how you could join them and you guys not only ignored it, you gave them the finger. The Big 12 is going to get $50 million per school next year and you guys are scrambling for maybe $15.
Not sure all options are closed as far as the Big 12 are concerned? Maybe they are? I thought the hang up was the 2 years before acceptance?
Big 12 came out and said, we want to be the basketball conference. In the Pac 12 it was UCLA, Arizona, and Oregon State with the basketball history and lore. Instead of putting any of the money to basketball they kept Tinkle and let some amazing players on the women's team walk. All of their decisions seem to be focused on football and right now that doesn't make sense. Beavers are not going to be competitive at football with $15 mill a year. Get into the Big 12 first, then focus on football.
Honestly, it's been a pretty long road to get to where we are with today's announcement. There were absolutely some poor decisions made along the way. I especially don't like they way some beaver fans have played the victim, blaming the other schools for only making a decision that was best for them. We've been scrambling for the last couple years. I'd have welcomed getting into a better conference anytime along the way I think. I also feel the nastalgia for the Pac. At least we have some scheduling commitments for our future. It's a new era for the conference, hopefully we can pick up a few more schools and find a place in all the reshuffling. I've always just wanted to watch my alma mater play on Saturday.
Perhaps the powers that be give a higher priority to scholastic endeavors rather than to athletic pursuits.
The big 12 also said they wanted to be an elite baseball conference. Seems like OSU should have had a seat because of that. Lots of people are claiming the big 12 was never gonna happen. Osu and wsu must think they can get a playoff berth as they are constructing the conference as is. I'm excited to see where they go for the other 2 schools.
