Florida is going to get hit AGAIN. It's going to take years to recover from this. It's going to take federal funds and leadership to help the citizens of that state and also to fix their fucked up homeowners insurance industry. She is the current vice president and a coin flip away from being the next president. You have the previous President lying and demonizing federal workers trying to help and do their jobs. You take the VP's phone call and show to everyone that all of the federal government is there to help. He's the one making this political. You and I both know he would have bitched if she didn't call.

I don't know enough about the problems with the homeowners insurance in Florida...but intuitively, if you owned an insurance company, would you want to offer policies that covered hurricane damage in Florida? Or if you did, wouldn't they be almost prohibitively expensive because of the risk? From what I understand, earthquake insurance in Alaska is similarly cost prohibitive due to their prevalence, but of course nobody cares about that because the population is so low.

My next door neighbor’s house is on the market. No better time to move home than the present! Just checked and don’t see a hurricane in our weather forecast for at least the next 400 years!

...hopefully if/when it turns North it keeps pushing East as well :dunno: you never know where "they/them" will direct its impact!

I hope that's a parody (tho if it is, it's horrible timing). But if it's not, this is why many people are no longer taking religion seriously.

reporting from cape coral 25 miles south of where ian landed 2 years ago. still here. insurance went up 1/3rd after ian. $120/month more for my insurance than my mortgage. can't wait for the helene/milton bump next may. got a bait store at the burntstore marina in punta gorda where the eye of ian landed too. storm surge during ian topped out at 20' there. commercial fishing in alaska, volcanoes and hurricanes on the big island, hurricanes in florida, i am begining to question some of my life choices as i slide into retirement lol.

At what point do we stop rebuilding Florida after these storms?

not trying to sound harsh, but I think the question needs to be asked

Can we just build it better so it can withstand? Of course then I guess you would need more building permits...
