I haven't said anything about targeting a superstar (or a top two or three player in the league). I'm not sure where you're getting that from.

The goal is to draft the superstar.

Of course that's always the goal. But you can't count on that. You can't have a plan that relies on that.

The superstar needs to be the cream, not the crop. If you draft in the top five for five or six years you will almost certainly luck into one or two All-Star caliber players. And you should have a lot of talent around those all star caliber players.

And then you should have other pics (probably later in the draft) that you have traded your older players for to bring in even more talent.

You almost certainly have some duplication. You can trade that implication for the veterans that you need to fill out your team. And now you have a young talented team that free agents may be willing to take less to play for an attempt to get over the top.

May as well bring this thread to the top of the list; I'm sure someone's gonna want to post here after tonight's game...

I feel bad posting that about the young man. It’s a meaningless game, but damn. I think all of this is compounded for me when we lost Sharpe for an extended time. I at least wanted to see something from Scoot.

I don't think any of us realistically expected him to be significantly better than last year, but we wanted something to hang our hats on.

There was zero from this game (from Scoot) to hang ones hat on from a positive aspect. He looked like someone who was boring shoe-horned into playing point, but had never played it before. His shot makes Keljin Blevins blush. He's just about to lose the benefit of the doubt too.

He needs to show something...anything...that shows he is progressing.

As Zags said, his shot looks like it's regressed.

He needs to have a better 2nd game.

This thread was created after his first preseaaon game last year. A year later he looks just as bad. The fundamental flaws in his game were obvious from the start.

Something that concerned me about Scoot since last summer was the little anecdote that was shared about how he reached out to Dame while he was in the G League and asked how Dame deals with missing shots or something along those lines.

To me..... that sounds like a confidence issue. That's not really the kind of mindset you want from your franchise point guard. I'm still really hoping he can turn it around but that story just didn't sit right with me.

Its funny the announcers said how much his skillset compares to westbrook. Yeah he can't shoot.

Chauncey of all people should realize that he doesn’t have it. I wonder what kind of signals he’s giving management.

I think he's going to be a bust. Sorry. It's why I've been arguing against trading Simons. Simons can be your PG without depressing you almost every game.

Maybe the Bucks will give us Lillard back. He's on the decline right?

Sounds like you want to win another 3-4 games this season. I have been thoroughly admonished for such a statement.

So while we're piling on, what's the best comparison for Scoot:
    Emmanuel Mudiay (taken 7th)
    Kris Dunn (taken 5th)
    Markelle Fultz (taken 1st)
    Killian Hayes (taken 7th)
    Jalen Suggs (taken 5th)?

Suggs is the most hopeful, but I'm going with Hayes. Dunn and Suggs are at least ferocious defenders.

I think it's still Westbrook. Yes that might be a couple years from now but that seems to be it.

My point in saying Westbrook is that we have to remember Russ played two years in college and was picked 4th after Rose, Beasley and OJ Mayo.
