nahhh....you don't want to recoup on Medicare. You want to stay relatively healthy and out of doctor's offices until you drop dead one day in your late 90's
Turning 65 shortly. Been a fan since the 70's. Favorite all time player.....Mercy mercy.....Jerome Kersey. My mom had a saying about the old guys sitting at the end of the bar everyday....in the same seat. She called them dead pecker row.
Where is @jlprk ? I don't want to be the oldest guy on here. I think I didn't start watching until the Porter/Drexler years. I thought NBA basketball was boring compared to the kamikaze kids. Now i am thinking maybe I started following the Blazers after Harter left Oregon in 1978.
I’m 38 years old. My Dad was a die hard Blazers fan from the 80s to early 2000s. He eased me into becoming a fan in the late 80s/early 90s by bringing home those Franz bread Blazers cards. I remember him yelling his lungs out listening to games on the radio and while at home watching games. I got more serious about the Blazers in the mid to late 90s watching Brian Grant and Rasheed Wallace and became a die-hard ever since.
I'm 68 yrs young and a Blazers fan from day 1. Listened to the Shonz in the early days even when the games were televised. My favorite Blazers memory was meeting Bucky Buckwalter back in the early 80's. I believe it was the '82 -'83 season when I would occasionally get a call that there were seats available for myself and a friend behind the Blazers bench. Unfortunately I had to move out of state before the end of the season and that was the end of that.
Was at game 1 with my dad, courtesy of Harry Glickman. My dad used to own the Alibi on Interstate and he and Harry were friends. We got a tour of everything and met some people, including the Schonz. My dad was definitely more of a Buckaroos fan, but I fell in love with the team immediately
In the mid 70’s, as young veteran scrambling to make a living working part time jobs and going to school on the GI Bill, I would occasionally take mental health breaks and slip into a favorite West Moreland watering hole (Rubensteins. Eventually became the Iron Horse) for Happy Hour. I loved hanging with the old neighborhood retirees who were there daily, slow working their Happy Hour pitchers (cut glass!) of cheap draft and ragging on each other. And I so very dearly envied them there hard won retirement. And I couldn’t wait to get there myself. Well here I am. Unfortunately those old holes in the wall are few and far between. So is cheap beer on Happy Hour…,,
Well that is a pretty interesting nugget. I assume you no longer own the Alibi? When did you/he sell?
70s? I was still young and had hopes and dreams. My dad passed away when I was young. I should add that he was a part owner with some navy buddy….. got nothing on that name though All this decorum and politeness was self taught
I lived just on the other side of the Iron Horse during my first stint as a married man. I saw Mike Rice there once and got to say hi and chat for a second.
I was too until the Blazers arrived. (Arnie and Cliff, Connie, Art Jones) The Totems were my first introduction to the Seattle rivalry. It still exists 55 years later.
Well so far unless anyone can dispute my claim it looks like at 75 I am the oldest. Came to Portland in 1971 from LA Basin growing up watching the lakers. At UCLA Kareem was in my history class when I was a freshman. Dont know why he was in the class as a junior he is 77. I thought there might be some other old timers in here besides myself. I have seen some great players in my time. When I came to Portland the Blazers became my team leaving LA behind. Hands down in my mind Kareen and the skyhook best center of all time. Larry Bird the Smartest player of all time. Jordan the greatest athlete in my mind. I saw Wicks play in high school in summer league we were playing in. Best shooting guard Curry and point guard is hard to make a selection. If i was to pick a point guard he would be able to shoot, pass and defend at an elite level. Wish I can see another 1977 championship again before the grim reeper makes an appearance.
