I think POR should take Middleton, AJ Jr or AJ Green (both are decent 3pt shooters), SRP (?) and give them Grant and Duop etc to get the money to work.

Could see if a 3rd team wants old man Middleton for another SRP or something?

Other contracts that are expiring are

    Ben Simmons, Randle, FVV

Salaries match for Grant and Middleton - but Middleton deal expires next season.

If we can't get a pick for Grant I would definitely pull the trigger on the Middleton swap. Then all our contracts would be expiring next year. That's much better than going past the deadline with Grant still here.

Super concerned that we might get stuck with Grants contract - it goes all the way until 2028.

It does make sense from Milwaukee end as they are trying to win now so are probably just going all in to win regardless of Grants cost in 4 years. Middleton when healthy was probably superior to Grant but he hasn't been healthy in many years.

It actually might help those two pick swaps and the pick we own from Milwaukee - they would be stuck with a 34 year old Grant earning $40 million... So that's another benefit.

Grant could actually be a great contributor on Milwaukee, they have rebounding and two main scoring options.

Really like this trade idea the more I think about it.

Denver eyeing Lavine, wonder if we could get them in on an MPJ-Grant swap instead, with MPJ ideally going out elsewhere for lesser contracts.

MPJs #s might look better, but sounds like they really need someone else who can create for themselves, vs. more of a spot up shooter. Hence the Lavine interest. Grant's not as dynamic of a scorer as Lavine, but a much better defender, and allows them to keep Braun in the starting lineup as a SG instead of SF.
Probably needs more tweaking, but can see Detroit interested in MPJ over Tobias because of age and shooting ability.

Do it now to give us a month to trade him.

Maybe we can get a swap from the Bucks and route MPJ there?

Then do a trade with the Bulls

    upload_2024-12-18_14-59-36.png

We might be able to flip Vucevic or Middleton for an asset at some point. Maybe even LaVine when his contract has less years.

We get our pick back and a swap for switching our stupid big 3 to a Vucevic/LaVine/Middleton one. Biggest thing I don't like is the extra year of LaVine deal.

I guess you already had us getting a swap. Yeah I would think Milwaukee would want Grant or MPJ over Harris. Also don't know that Denver would give us a pick, or if they even have one to trade (I know they've sent out a couple).

Milwaukee can't aggregate salaries or take on more salary, so they couldn't take on MPJ. The Harris-Middleton swap gives them a healthy fit, but also shaves 6 million in salary, which I believe gets them below the 2nd apron, so a huge $$ saver. And the ability to sign buy out guys later.

Well the fanspo trade machine worked as I posted above sending MPJ there... maybe sending out Connaughton would have Milwaukee below the 2nd apron so they can aggregate?

Sending out Connaughton for 0 salary back would get them under. However swapping Middleton for MPJ puts them back over.
Spotrac has the salaries slightly different than Fanspo, which I think is where the issue might be. Maybe fanspo isn't factoring in unlikely bnuses, which are factored in to 2nd apron calculations.

Nevermind, it does look like it would work, sorry!

Although I believe it would put us in the tax.

    This doesn't work.
I'm not sure why it says it's successful.

Bucks are over the 2nd apron & therefore cannot aggregate salaries. They have no way of trading Middleton ($32M) and receiving MPJ ($36M)

Which was in reply to the Lakers giving up a FRP for Grant.... so the context of the discussion is the trade value of the player which includes contract/age/etc.

Thats how I intended the statement anyways. If it was read by somebody differently than whatever, my follow up comments have made it very clear.

if we wanted to give up jerami Grant for a first round pick and salary filler the deal would be done.

Would you do Grant for rui and Deangelo Russell?

Yes personally I would as Rui contract is much smaller and he's younger. I don't want the Blazers paying a 34 year old Grant 40 million in 2028.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's already on the table from a number of late draft teams. We're trying to get a better return.

I just hope Joe is willing to settle for the best offer by the trade deadline on both Ant and Jerami... also it would be ridiculous to have Deandre, Rob and Donovan on the same roster for the rest of the season and I'm not advocating us trading Donovan.
