This dude needs to be studied on how trash he is… how did so many experts completely miss on this guy? He was so hyped. This is like all time bust territory

Some of the players Scoot compares statistically the most similarly to from age 19-21; Emmanuel Mudiay Dennis Smith Jr Dion Waiters Elie Okobo Tony Wroten Archive Goodwin Blake Wesley Marcus Williams DeShawn Stevenson For every Chauncey Billups or Steve Nash that developed a bit late as a PG there's a couple dozen of these guys.
Was it Coach K who recommended him so strongly to McMillan that he had to have him? Or have I got one or both names wrong? Don't really trust my memory on this one.
He has had some good games, even a good stretch once. I hope they have whatever coach he works with sit down with him and watch those games; maybe it would build his confidence and remind what he does when he is successful.
His feel for the game is really lacking. I don't think it's just a matter of not making shots. He doesn't understand angles and timing. He can't shoot a layup with his left hand. He doesn't need a shooting coach as much as he needs and elementary school coach.
Honestly I had some real concerns about the whole story where he reached out to Dame. It was an odd question to ask. "How do you deal with the missing shots" or something along those lines. To me it was a red flag because shooters don't worry about that shit. They can't. You have to have a short memory. It was an indication of confidence issues and it has only seemed to be more and more clear that he's having self-confidence issues. That was never a problem with Dame. I found it - “Yo, Damian Lillard. I’m Scoot Henderson. I was just wondering if you can give me some free game on shooting the next shot, and not worry about the last one?” Scoot was struggling to let mistakes go, berating himself, trying so hard to be perfect. Trying to be great." https://www.blazersedge.com/2023/6/...il-blazers-pg-damian-lillard-instagram-advice
That's not a confidence thing, it's a perfectionist thing. And Scoot doesn't seem to be suffering from confidence issues in games. If anything, he's over-confident in his iffy shooting abilities, letting it fly instead of driving to the hoop.
It's a confidence thing. He has all the tools. He needs good coaching and time. I don't know if that will turn him into a star, But IMO he can definitely be a quality point guard in the NBA with the right guidance and opportunity.
