Again Simons has so many ways to finish at the end of ball games. This time with the left-handed layin after drawing contact. He made it look easy. You have to double him in those situations.
Ben Wallace didn't score much, but of course it's a team game on both ends. On offense he focused playing the traditional big man game setting picks for shooters (especially Rip) and crashing the offensive glass where he was elite. Simons has a hell of an ability to make very difficult shots. I still watch him and at times think in the ideal situation perhaps he could be a borderline all-star player. He takes a lot of bad shots, just pounds the ball for no reason, and is in very difficult positions to score. With the right teammates, offensive structure, and coaches I'd think that can be massively improved. I'm all for the Blazers going in a different direction but it seems like a complete waste to both Simons and the Blazers for him to have been here so long.
It's fine to have starters that are only good at offense or defense. But the problem with Simons is he's an offensive specialist, but his efficiency has been poor this year. So he's scored points on a high volume of shots, but how much is that really aiding the offense? He had 3 straight years of being over the league TS% average, but has declined the past 2 years.
