RIP to the pilots and passengers of the helicopter and the passenger plane...I can't imagine losing loved ones that way. What a heartbreaking tragedy. I randomly picked a chopper to fly out in the Tonkin Gulf from Danang and the one I didn't choose was blown up in front of me in the air....really strikes a nerve every time I read of a plane crash. I was so lucky to choose the last chopper on the tarmac. I could have easily gotten on the other one. What a loss to USA figure skating to lose the championship couple along with all the other skaters, coaches and just regular folks who lost their lives in this accident.
Looks like the tower was understaffed. The guy that was watching the planes was also tasked with watching helicopters. Usually, these are jobs held by different people.

When asked if he would visit site of crash, Trump sarcastically asked if he was supposed to swim. What every other president does at time of tragedy: Lay flowers. Encourage and praise rescue workers diving in cold dark water searching for bodies. Comfort family members gathered hoping they can an at least give loved ones decent burial.
