Go figure. You'd bitch if you were hung with a new rope. If Clingan was a black center you'd almost certainly be walking around with emission stains in your chinos after last night's performance......

The kid is still growing. He can't help it if he's built like a taller Chris Kamen! He needs to work on lateral speed at this point but get back to me when he can legally buy a beer.

This seems like a different argument.

One is about conditioning and one is about being a polished NBA starter. Someone could have amazing conditioning and be an awful NBA player.

But I do wonder if Clingan will ever be capable of being a consistent 35 mpg player, or will he be in that 25-30 minutes bracket.

I think ideally we'll pick up a good small ball C so we can dictate the matchups and this will be a moot point. The small ball guy and Clingan will platoon at about 24 minutes a piece and be able to give it everything they've got during their time on the court.

This sounds exactly like the logic a certain GM used to trade Luka for jack.

20 rebounds, 17 pts, multiple blocks? He's out of shape, don't want to extend someone like that!

I'll take 17/20 in 31 minutes from my out of shape center.

Kirkland has a really nice conditioner. Maybe we could get him a bottle.

Dude, I stated a 20 year old kid should have more stamina. Then got attacked for me saying he should be a polished NBA player. Then someone brought up stats, which was never my observation. You fucking soccer moms need to relax

Again, his stats have nothing to do with him not being in great shape…..or appearing that way, anyway. Him getting lost on defense, committing silly fouls, not having a post move or even him plodding and not being athletic have nothing to do with him seemingly STILL not being in good enough shape to play more minutes consistently for a 20 year old kid

Clingan is 2nd on the team in defensive rating and DBPM behind Timelord (who hasn't really played enough to count). Clingan's defensive rating is 6.5 points better than the team and his DBPM is 1.5 points better than the team. Meaning the time he has spent "lost on defense" is less that any other player on the team

granted, those defensive metrics tend to favor bigs and C/PF's but Clingan isn't the only Blazer who plays C/PF

if you want to say he's plodding, fine. Or that he's really only suited for drop coverage, that's fine too; but we all knew that when he was drafted. Slow footed? OK. Slow reacting? nope. Because if he was truly a slow reaction big, he wouldn't be essentially leading the league in offensive rebounding and blocked shots. Those two things require effort and reaction

You're painting this as awful, when in fact, it's amazing. What you're really saying is that DC is thriving even though his game has many flaws. However, most of the flaws you cite are fixable. So, year 2, he'll be fantastic, year 3 he will be ridiculously amazing! WABC for the freaking win!
