I'm not sure but they do have this guy that does replays that works in the Blazer Broadcasting group. I hear he played a bit in his day when he was Much Much lighter and he's got an awesome set of sneakers he could show off on the sidelines. He even calls everyone "FAMS" so he knows the lingo. He's married though so that could be a problem (For some).
I think Billups deserves a free season to try to win out with a healthy roster before we move on. The young guys have improved under him. He has them working hard and obviously still has the locker room. He didn't sign up for three years of tanking but has been a good sport about it. Give him a year with a healthy roster and not tanking and then evaluate him, is my thought.
honestly I’m not opposed to it my biggest issue has been his use of Ant and Grant over Sharpe and Scoot. Still not 100% sure who Scoot is as starter. I was hoping we’d see at least half a season of Scoot and Sharpe as starters
Done with Billups. The Blazers may still enter the lottery at #9 … maybe. 8 is looking more distant … Not helping. I get that winning games is the priority for Billups while developing players.. Development WAS the priority. The measuring stick. Not winning. The implication of pre-season comments was that Billups wasn’t on board with a soft tank. Yet they kept him on and apparently hoped they would lose anyway. At the deadline, Cronin had to publicly support NOT getting in the way of the team winning. Of course. And because he didn’t get trades done, there wasn’t much he could say. It doesn’t mean Cronin actually wanted to win so many games and wreck the odds for a top 4 pick. That was not the plan. Plenty of words, I know, to say I hope a new coach is hired. Cronin has a busy summer with trades, and his job should be on the line if he punts.
Too be fair, I don't think the play of Grant impacted Sharpes and Scoots minutes, but I hear ya on Ant. I too wanted to see Scoot and Sharpe together the majority of their minutes played. Im not sure that is all on Billups though? How much directive was Billups given to play Ant and Grant big minutes due to salary, veteran status and/ or to showcase while trying to find a worthy trade? Im not sire but im also not sure he had all the say in a big picture sense.
I just don’t know where the blame for being bad but not bad enough should fall? Billups was supposed to coach and grow the team. He was also supposed to play his veterans like all teams do. It’s just so completely wrong that I simply don’t know who to blame here? What a shit show?
