John Oliver does a great job. This was interesting, but didn't really bring much new to the discussion. Had some very good takedowns of MAGA points of view. So that's good. This has all been handled so cruelly that my concerns don't matter. I wish someone who actually cared would have come up with a compassionate solution before Trump was given the opportunity. Not sure if it would have mattered though...
I was outraged that the NCAA doesn't require all events to have two 5th-place trophies in case of ties.
The cruelty is the point. There was no intention by Trump fascist cult to find compassionate solution to trans athletes. Or immigration. Or criminal justice reform. Or public health inequities. Or even the price of eggs. The point has always been find convenient scapegoats against whom they can whip up hate. So people will gladly support their own misery just to be able to say other people are hurting more.
Did you see the video? One of the arguments made is that by adding the word athletes after trans you can openly be bigoted. I don't like trans people athletes. Trans people athletes shouldn't be allowed to be around children.
Cruelty is very clearly the point. And that's why it's not even worth trying to have a serious conversation about any legitimate policy right now.
Seaside youth basketball tournaments do this with 3rd place medals. It's honestly genius. The kids don't know how bracketing works. I'm sure they bring a lot more teams back who wouldn't come back otherwise. *Edit* That's actually not relevant to the current topic, but it made me think of it.
