Uh, no. I see no upside to what you’re proposing.

There is a view on this board that a Grant trade would require adding assets (a pick) to get it done. I disagree with that opinion. Ant’s value and Ayton’s value likewise receive low value or neutral value, too.

A trade proposal of Grant + Ant + Murray = Bobby Portis + Dame
Portis at 30 has been a backup for 3 years and is a pretty good PF/C who shoots and rebounds well. (Pretty general statements about a good player.)
Dame will be out a year and then will be on his final year before a pay cut.

This trade is bringing in a useful backup who has been healthy and a player who has said he would like to return, eventually. Check with him prior to a trade if Milwaukee is interested. Diplomacy.

It sheds what some people think is a neutral to negative contract and a contract many fans do not want extended at larger numbers.

This trade proposal is not ideal, but it could help (or buy time) for Milwaukee keeping Giannis. If this is not enough value for Portland, then give the option to Portland of swapping picks in 2031 if 2028 does not have the swap happen.

Bringing back Dame….not gonna happen. Rather have Giannis to play with Deni, Camara, Clingan, Sharpe. I will concede to keeping Scoot and having Bantom, Thybulle, Reath off the bench - i’m good with this. We’d need a vet back-up PG (playmaker) and perhaps an “enforcer” type vet PF coming off the bench.

we got Grant, Ayton, Simons, Williams, Murray…and some draft capital to try for Giannis. Can we find a way to bring Giannis? If he’s a pipe dream, what about Sabonis?

….but bringing back Dame just doesn’t make sense. Shoulda, woulda, coulda.

it does if he agrees to a vet min after next year. Great mentor for Scoot and the “win it for Dame” mentality shouldn't be underrated. That can be quite motivational for players and teams.

he's got 2 years left on his contract. Next season at 54.1M. And a player option of 58.5M in 2026-27. He's not going to opt out of a 58.5M salary to accept a vet minimum. It would have to be 2027-28, when he's 37. If he can't really recover from this Achilles tear, and that's probable at his age, he may just hang up his shoes in 2027

Shit. I thought it was just one. Would you take him back if he agreed to opt out of that last year and re-sign with us for a min?

Would you take him back without a opt out but he agrees to a ver min after that last season?

Nah, if he comes back it will be on the cheap as a FA after his current contract expires.

I was one of the biggest Dame fans around here, but I just can't see him as an option at 37, even on a vet minimum

it's not dame as a player or a contract, it's dame as a set of expectations.

Which honestly I think is almost a forgone conclusion. He'll either sign here for a farewell season, or he'll just do the one-day contact thing to retire as a Blazer.

Oh, Dame will be back in a Blazer Uniform. It's only a matter of when.

It would not be an option for on the court. It would be more for off the court and the locker room.

I'd do some sort of trade such as Ayton & Grant for Dame plus we get their 2031 swap.

Honestly would prefer Dame next year in street clothes than either Ayton or Grant playing for us.

Dames last season of his contract is bad - but Grants contract is way overpaid too and goes a year longer.
