Canzano trying to get clicks by making it sound like Jody was rude about turning him down. Typical Clownzano.
If Phil buys the team he will make sure it stays the Blazers and stays in Portland basically forever. That dude is about what makes Oregon sports great and besides the Ducks, the Blazers are Oregon sports. Phil is still the dream scenario owner. Phil Knight's surviving son Travis has his really cool animation studio Laika based in Hilsboro. The family is Oregon.
Next starting backcourt will be Ant and CJ. He'll find a way to negate trades from the past 3 years and bring Nurk back. LMA comes out of retirement. Harkless finally gets called up from the Remix. Some fans rejoice.
I was excited to hear this news! I really hope and pray that we get someone who’s committed to winning but won’t mettle too much like Phoenix.
Well I think naming the team the Ducks would only water down the brand that Knight has already pumped billions into building at U of O.
Some of the local sports talk guys were tweeting Mark Cuban to get back into the NBA ownership game and buy the Blazers.
Doesn't he still own 27% of the Mavs? League ownership rules prevent him from having any ownership stake in more than 1 team.
No LeBron is not.... he is worth 1.2 billion which would rank somewhere around the 3000th richest person in the world. But to buy an NBA team you need liquid assets. The NBA doesn't allow financing the purchase with debt. So how much actual cash could LeBron raise? Probably a couple hundred million. But I'd bet the vast majority of of it is tied up in investments or other endeavors. Celtics sold for $6 billion. Other teams previously sold for over $4 billion. So no - LeBron couldn't even get his foot in the door as one of the larger minority owners.
I think when LeBron "buys" a team he will be the "owner" along with a bunch of much richer friends as co-owners who realize the value of LeBron being the face of their ownership group.
Maybe if the three of them pooled all their money they could each buy a couple percent of the team. Together they could own maybe 6%.
Well. I guess once you get past the fact that merely sitting on obscene wealth as millions starve is itself abhorrent, there are degrees of awfulness in the people in that situation.
The League already has ex player minority owners - Wade, David Robinson, Grant Hill, MJ. Minority owners just don't matter much. When MJ was a majority owner of the Hornets it did mean something. Cuban saw a couple months ago how relevant a minority owner is to decisions the franchise makes. I don't see how LeBron/Dame/etc owning a couple percent is any different than Wade in Utah.
