We don't need an owner to have a bunch of basketball people on their payroll. The basketball people should be under the GM and on the Blazers payroll. Your basically describing having a bunch of Bert Kolde or Vulcan management interfering with the Blazers basketball operations. If a new owner eventually wants to fire Cronin then fine go do that. But we don't need to have a new owner plus 3 other bosses Joe and Chauncey have to juggle dealing with.
I think it's the uncertainty of ownership that is a bigger issue, and one that doesn't appear long term invested in the franchise. Yeah, she's (or the estate) has done things to make things better, but it's always been under the guise of prepping it for a sale/solidifying the franchise for the most profit available. She's not the reason why the team is bad right now, nor is she the reason why they missed out on Cooper Flagg, but she's not technically the owner of the team. She runs the estate of Paul Allen. That does not make for long term stability for the franchise. Could things be worse under a new ownership group? Sure. They could be like what's happened in Phoenix, and get massively fucked over by an idiot owner who didn't know to leave well enough alone. But it also might be nice to not have Toht running things.
Oh so because fans don’t like the owner, the new owners will be better? Is that how it works? I can’t believe you actually got somebody to LIKE your collections of words here.
Probably can't be much worse ... But just might be better - possibly much better. Plus they won't have to deal with the trust issue. Even Jody personally as sole 100% owner would be much better than this bizarre trust arrangement.
I can give you a reason why this could be good. No not sure it's best but I'm intrigued. The current owner situation has no skin in the game. They did not purchase the team and therefore are less likely to have a real interest in how the team performs. This situation seems stale at best. The decisions have seemed more about business as usual than actually making choices to try to win a championship. This has been going on now for over 6 years. I think I'm like most Blazer fans in saying that while Jody has stepped in and actually seemed fairly involved she certainly has never brought any fire or charisma to the table and obviously has used Bert Kolde to continue the status quo. They have done a fine job keeping the MODA in good condition. They have also kept the team in the Black for the most part. Can you say that a new owner won't do those things or even more while also spending to get more out of the Blazers? This is where many of us are standing. It's time and has been time to move forward and sell the team but Yes i agree, The grass isn't always greener. I'm hoping a new owner or ownership group will be looked into with the best interest of the team and the city in mind.
Worse than what? The last 3 or 4 years were not great, we can all admit that. If this would happen during the prime Dame era, I would have been a bit wary about a change. The structure seemed solid with an owner, Paul Allen, that was dedicated to the success of the franchise. Can we say the same about Jody Allen? She is not bad, but not great either in all that I can read and hear from different media that I follow. That's as much as I know and I am aware that it's just the tip of the iceberg. But let's be honest. After 3 consecutive tanking years and just little progress this year, you can understand some fans wanting an ownership change. That doesn't guarantee anything. But could it be worse than 3 tanking years? Some may hope not and I am one of them.
What if it’s a meddling owner? There are shit owners. Jerry Jones, Dan Schneider, James Dolan. Then there are guys like John Fisher and Al Davis who would up and leave a city for money. Clay Bennett who lied to everyone to move the team to his hometown. I’ll take hands off, not caring and uninvolved over that other shit
Given the political climate in the US, I don't think Americans can/should look down their noses at anyone else about this sorta stuff.
Ah yes, both-sides-ism. A favorite rhetorical device of Vladimir Putin. There's "bad owners" like the new Suns guy who thinks he knows best, and then there's "bad owners" who are literally EVIL. Let's see if we can avoid both please.
