    Behind the scenes via his agent Kobe let it be known would enroll at UNC if any team other then the Lakers ended up with his draft rights. Per the rules at the time, teams would lose draft rights of guys they'd drafted if they were under 21 and didn't come to them within a certain time... pretty sure thats how Portland attained Sabonis's rights after Atlanta had first drafted him. Before the draft happened this "rumor" was openly being stated in the national draft press. Later I heard the same stuff confirmed in interviews with multiple NBA GMs and UNC coach Dean Smith.
