It sure was. I think a lot of the older fans don’t like the current style of play.

The problem is that there isn't a compelling star in this game. SGA has to be the most boring MVP ever.

The reason the new TV contract I believe was so astronomical, as will the next one. TV money is the true measuring stick of the success or lack there of.

Sounds like Durant needs to reevaluate the people he trusts.

KD should go back to OKC. With the assets they have it could work and he would close out games for them.

It would make sense to retire where he began, but they are going to have a hard enough time paying players as it is. Will they want his contract? He does expire after next season, but $54 million next season on just him would hurt.

    They might.

He only has a few years left. Silver better get that expansion going.

Am I crazy to think that KD is such an amazing shooter, he still has 5 years left in him?

He can shoot, but he is getting older. He's no Lebron. He hasn't won anything without a super team. He has gone from team to team with little to show for it. He might want to retire sooner rather than later.

what dos that even mean? That more people watched the game, at the end of the 4th Q, then were watching a Home Improvement re-run?

how does that square with this:

Why do the Covid years not count? More people were stuck at home then. Plus Lakers were in 2020 Finals and they’re usually considered a draw.

What the hell is up with so many days between games. This is ridiculous.

So I was watching an interview done by Stephen Colbert the other day and whoever he was interviewing said something like, "I come on here for the 15 million people who watch you every night." Colbert said with a ridiculous look on his face, "Yeah all 15 million of you." because he gets about 2.5 million a night per Nielsen and is the highest rated late night program on TV... linear or streaming... but that's the rub there are so many options that the NBA pulling 9 million viewers live when the series is just starting out is a good result.

Johhy Carson averaged something like 17 million viewers a night during his tonight show run. In an ever evolving space, you have to see that overnight linear TV ratings don't mean shit anymore. The stuff that @THE HCP (who is a professional in the industry we're discussing) is posting about is what matters right now. What was the highest rated show of the night... not how many linear viewers is Nielsen reporting but was it the most watched because there are a lot of things that signifies, like streaming numbers and what programs will be watched on dvr or delayed streaming over the following 48 hours. The funny thing is that even all of that convoluted mess isn't even half of the story because the NBA is so international now that less than half of it's viewers are in the US.

If a NBA Finals game is the most watched program when it's on then it's doing well. I'd expect the ratings will go up as we get further into the series and even further when there are elimination games but the ratings won't tell the whole story... it's just not linear math anymore, it's really complicated stuff that the linear numbers point to but are definitely not close to the totality of.
