Yeah the reach would be a harder pill to swallow if he didn't come with an unprotected future first (even if it's with a team ascending) and a couple of seconds which can be used to get a trade over the finish line.

As Chauncey noted, these two are probably not going to see a lot of court time together next season... & I'd add to that ever. However, the whole BPA thing is about selecting the guy who you think will have the highest upside of an NBA career regardless of your current roster. Add talent & then let it prove itself as valuable... then make trades to balance/maximize your team

I don't think Yang will play much this year as I expect Ayton to be with the club at least until the trade deadline. Yang will train with Blazer staff & develop his body, work on assimilating in the culture & pick up some scrap minutes. The following season is when he'll show what he can do.

Your probably right but its not like we dont have centers oenters on the team, and if another team wants him? These guys are only assets and if we have tom give up a young player with potential to swing for the fence? Would you rather package, Shae, Camara, Scoot, Deni or Yang? Anyn swing for the fence trade woulkd require including one of these guys, I would guess?

I have theorized Clingan. You didn't name him. They literally just drafted a guy his position that he can't play with. I like our team and wouldn't rush to trade young pieces. Time to move the remaining vets.

There's a 6 hour draft deepdive on Hansen Yang on youtube LOL:

I watched some of it. The passing and touch stand out. Defensively.....he's gonna have a lot of issues. Basic positioning is not there. There is going to be an adjustment period for sure.

I think that’s going to be a matter of adjustment to speed of the game here. Yeah, he’ll be in more foul trouble than Clingan for sure, and Clingan was certainly anything but perfect. Last year though, I was extremely nervous about the prospect of having Zach Edey for many of the reasons people are concerned about Hansen. But I don’t feel this way about Hansen. It might take some time, but I think Hansen should become an infinitely better player than Edey. Unless Edey improves his conditioning mightily, I would expect Hansen to play Edey off the floor a lot in five years. That’s either a high or low bar, depending on how you feel about Edey. Edey was picked 7 picks ahead of Hansen this time last year.

Hopefully it won't get out of control like it did with Ha Seung Jin and Nedzad Sinanovic.

During a Portland Trail Blazers practice, Ha Seung-jin and Nedzad Sinanovic engaged in a physical altercation. Ha snatched the ball from Sinanovic after a made free throw, leading to an argument and escalating into a fight. The scuffle resulted in Ha being punched and shouting "I'll sue!" as he was being separated. Ha then grabbed a wooden pole and attacked Sinanovic with it, before being restrained by team staff.

Between us and the Suns, we’ve now seen two teams load up on bigs. Suns doing it on the same night, us doing it in back-to-back drafts. This is all a matter of planning a future to prepare for Wemby in his prime.

I didn’t get to watch much basketball at all this year, would anyone want to tell me how they feel about a Clingan/Hansen vs Williams/Malauch frontcourt? How do they compare to the Mobley/Allen frontcourt?

To me, Clingan will be right there among the best defensive centers in the league. The competition is probably steeper now that it would be hard to see Clingan win 4x DPOYs, but I would expect him to be somewhere near Gobert’s level of impact defensively. On the other hand, Hansen offers a whole new dynamic to our team’s construction. Hansen looks like he could be one of the coldest passing big men in the league eventually. He looks like he can dribble and make some reads already. His shot looks good. In his prime, Wemby is going to have to guard this guy too, and I would feel very comfortable in that matchup. Foul trouble from one guy just means more opportunity for the other guy that night.

Neither guy’s projection is guaranteed. But having both give us a real shot at having a dominant big man rotation for the foreseeable future.

I’m curious to see if the Rockets ever try to find another big skilled defensive big man next to Sengeun, or if OKC has to find a stronger big to play next to Chet.

If Yang develops into an actual impact player, the PTB are no longer a small market team

Anytime you can use back to back picks at 7 and 16 on guys who play the same position and cant play together with three other guys at that same position you really gotta jump on that. It took 48 hours but it’s nice to see he’s already the answer to Wemby and won over the fan base.

Did I miss where people discussed his news conference? Unique one with the translator. Billups was emphatic that Clingan and Yang wouldn't ever play together. Seems like he might not get minutes to start the season. Likeable guy and cool to see him already trying to use so much English.
