Reported as 11 not the max 14. Not sure exactly but they had to juggle a lot of salary for $62 million sign and trade for NAW.
I agree that's what they gave him. Just saying they COULD have given him more. They had a big TPE to do the NAW S&T.
actually no. I challenge you to try to find a post from me like that. The decisions that have been made so far this off season are indefensible. Complete lack of direction. Once again. I know reality is hard to accept. I’m a diehard fan who has made excuses for the team time after time. Maybe it’s not my fault for finally breaking and maybe it’s actually the teams. So far we’ve sent out Simon’s and Ayton. Brought in Yang and Jrue holiday. an absolute joke
I don't see it that way. To me, by getting rid of Simons and Ayton (and maybe Grant) there's finally a clear direction. I'm actually looking forward to next year and watching the youth play.
I do understand that but why bring in Jrue? It seriously makes no sense. You couldn’t get anything else for Simons? his contract is through 2028 which is absolutely insane. You are gonna have to extend Tou, Shaedon and scoot soon and they’ll actually be on reasonable contracts. The cap is going to incr are 7-10% for the next 3(?) years I think? We could have been in incredible shape financially in the near future. Let’s not forget Jrue plays PG let’s also not forget Jrue is extremely pissed he’s coming to Portland
12 months ago Jrue had a lot of trade worth. Yeah he had a bad season. Was it injuries or an inevitable decline? I'm guessing the Blazers are betting there's a chance he bounces back. Seems obvious the Blazers want a defensive identity and push to win now. Now overall I graded the Jrue trade as a bad move, but I can see what the team is trying to do. To me not getting that NOP/MIL pick is a bigger error if that was available. I can understand not liking this off-season. But I don't understand this being a tipping point. It's been years of no consistent strategic direction and overpriced worthless vets. If your really bothered by this off-season seems like others should have bothered you too. Especially the Clippers trade, as well as the NurkAntGrant contracts.
those trades did bother me but they were necessary. These moves make no sense. It’s an accumulation of the last few years. Every off season is a disappointment. Passing in that NO pick to draft Yang could end up being the biggest mistake Cronin made. Complete malpractice. That’s essentially getting that Yang is equal to a top 5 pick next year
im in minority I love the Jrue acquisition. You need vet leaders unlike Ayton you need guys who knows what it takes to win championships and will lead by example on the court. There won’t be a player on this team that doesn’t learn from Jrue. Oh and by the way he is still is still a damn good player. He might drop off over the next couple of years but by then hopefully our two guards have made the jump
I don't think you're in much of a minority. I don't fully understand the trade, but there are certainly things to like!
Everyone loves Jrue Holiday. He’s the most likeable guy in the league. He’s also 35 and very expensive for three years. Find another vet who can teach and lead who doesn’t cost $32m. If he plays he’s taking time from Scoot. If he sits he’s sitting there making $32m. It doesn’t make sense.
Billups was a guard who was a 5-time all-star; 3 time all-NBA; and 2-time all-NBA defense. He can't mentor? Or is a HC not mentor material?
He might but I think we might be picking him up a couple seasons too early to play that role, for his taste. I don't think that's good. I'm sure he'll be a pro and a good teammate but he won't look at Scoot and Shaedon as his mentees, he'll see them both as inferior guards who are set up to take his job and that's probably accurate. So it's probably another fucked situation engineered by Joe. The dude just can't do it. He can't pick a fucking lane. It pushed Dame out the door. It's left us in a really weird and seemingly pointless spot since Dame was traded. It's probably unfair to just put it on Joe because I'd imagine it's actually because he has to do all sorts of weird shit to satisfy Bert but still the buck stops somewhere and this Jrue move stinks like the inability to pick a consistent direction. Sure we're a defense first team... great but the pieces are just slapped together in a weird way that's far too reminiscent of every Joe Cronin roster that we've had.
